Step 4: Wig Time!

Time to put on your wig!

Since I had the braids at the base of my skull, I found it easier to put the wig on starting from there. The braids help hold the wig so it doesn't try to slide right off as you stretch it over your head.

Optional: once the wig is on, you can use bobby pins or other hair clips to hold the wig on. Mine had a hook at the back I could use to tighten it.

Enjoy your ability to hide your long hair and wear a wig!

You should try a short hair wig, just to find out how you look with short hair : some women can be awesome with short hair. Can you believe it : turning yourself from very beautiful to awesome woman ?

BTW no "overheating" under that wig ???…

By the way, you can see me in my profile image < wearing a shorter wig and I think it still works pretty well :)

Oh, I plan on trying a short wig! I have been eyeing one for this years halloween costume. And I don't think it got hot, but I was wearing it in the fall, might get hotter under the sun in the summer.

Now don't make compliment to a modern woman … She doesn't even notice when one tells her she's beautiful ! LOL

Nicely done anyway.

I used your instructable to wear my first-ever wig for my Poison Ivy cosplay, your method worked fabulously! The wig stayed all day with just 6 bobby pins and a little hairspray to secure the braids. The way the braids crossed over in the back really helped make it fit more securely. Thanks for great directions!

Glad to hear it worked well! The wig (and your awesome costume) look great! Thanks for sharing the picture :)

Yeah, I really like how the braids give the wig something to grab onto.

I bought a 2 pack on ebay, but you can also find them on amazon. I have trouble putting links in comments, but I linked to some in the Instructable that you can find on Amazon.

Hi, this is a great insructable but you should add more words.

Should I have elaborated somewhere?

So you think you can dance?
Great job on the photography!

Thanks! I had a remote and I had to keep trying to hide it from getting in the picture.

Step 3 first image 0_0 Surreal !

It is pretty cool :)

May I just say you look great in all three looks! your natural...your braid (love that!) and the wig.(so different!)
Awesome! Can you make an Instructable on how to keep long hair happy and healthy? Yours looks amazing! Sadly, that's not always the case with such long hair.
I honestly don't know! I dye my hair once in a while so I would actually say it is not healthy. Other than that Herbal Essences Shampoo and Conditioner all the way! Also, I do not blow dry my hair ever and rarely straighten it.
Lucky you then! My hair is not nearly that long and I have to use leave-in conditioners and hairserums to keep is healthy!
there is an instructable on home remady contest...check it out :-)
I've also had good results with wigs by quartering my head and making 4 loose braids, not 2, and then looping them around my head like you do. BTW - I have waist-long hair - so this really does work!
I debated doing more braids but was unfamiliar with doing more than 2 french braids at a time. I'll have to try with 4. Do you do regular braids or french braids?
I've actually done it both ways, but I have fairly fine hair. ;)
A tip:
Make the braids loose so they can squish under the wig cap.
Good tip :)
Great, excellent job. I always wondered how they get a huge amount of hair under those caps. Don't all the clips and cap cause you to get a headache after awhile though?
Is there a way to avoid that?
I actually don't use many clips. For me, the clips were fine, the only thing that bothered me was, my wig had straps in the back I could connect to tighten it. I could only have those straps connected some of the time because they would put too much pressure on my head. As long as you don't jab yourself in the scalp or have a pin in just the right spot where it pulls the hair too much, you should be fine :)
You have gorgeous long hair! I used to have really long hair but had to chop it off after I had my son because so much fell out! Great tutorial! Whenever I did wigs with long hair I always had a huge bun bump!
Thanks! I need more wigs. We all need more wigs!
OMG! Thank you! I have incredibly long hair that's too thick to dye and I have seen some awesome wigs that i'd love to wear! You have given this girl a new lease of life! Thank you!
:D Yay!
I have to say, the braid crown isn't a bad look either.
I agree! I am going to need to do that more often.
You're Welcome!
That is awesome
This is great because I am an old granny for Halloween and I needed to know how to put my hair up so it wouldn't stick through my wig. thanks!
-Aqua12
Glad this helped :)
Your hair is gorgeous, I want mine to be that long someday! It's getting there slowly lol
Thanks!!! It has taken me about 6 or 7 years to get it this long. It takes a while, but it's fun to have such long hair :) Look at those awesome braids I can do with it!
I bet! It's taken me about 4 years for mine. Love the braids!
Wigs are so crazy, they can totally transform your appearance. This almost doesn't look like you!
I managed to confuse some people at the office by waking around in this :)
