Introduction: How to Animate Walking and Movement Using Stop Motion Animation

About: I play guitar in a very awful band, despite my immense swag, we aren't very good

This is an instructable on how to make action figures walk and move using stop motion video.

Step 1: Step 1: Setting Up

You will need to drill magnets into the feet of the toys you are going to use.

Other Things you will need.
  • Camera for use on your stop motion program.
  • You will need sheet metal
  • Large paper to cover it
  • Background.

Step 2: Step 2: Basic Movement

  • Move one leg forward at a time, with small, careful movements.
  • Keep one leg back on the ground, as the other moves forward.
  • Make the arms sway as the toy walks, for a more realistic movement.
  • Move the opposite arm in the same direction as the leg (Right leg moves forward, left arm moves forward).

Step 3: Step 3: Advanced Movements

There are a wide variety of movements a toy with proper joints can make.
One more advanced, yet simple movement is falling.
  • Make the character lean in, and have one of his legs kick backwards up into the air.
  • Then bring him down face first, if needed you can hold the character by a piece that is off screen, and bring it down from there.
  • Make sure to bring the limbs down, so it looks correct.

Step 4: Step 4: Falling/Hitting

  • Move the arm/leg from one character into another, simulating contact between the two.
  • The one who is hit moves in the back away from the hit, falling backwards, you could hold the feet off camera, and lean it back until it hits the ground.

Step 5: Video of Movement
