Picture of How to Automatically Shutdown Your Windows Vista Computer...

In response to the public demand and that the method that i used in the previous instructable that is designed for xp doesnt work for vista i made this instructable which is special for turning off vista automatically...

this will show you how to let your windows vista turn off automatically at a specified time....
this instructable is easier than the previous one for xp and there is no coding nor scripting in it, its is all a GUI process!

and if you want that in vista follow up this instructable...

follow this instructable and please leave a comment to tell me what you think about it...

REAMARK: if you want to shutdown xp automatically then go to my previous instructabel...

Step 1: Opening Up the Task Scheduler...

Picture of Opening Up the Task Scheduler...

For this Instructabel i am using Windows Vista Home Edition . click on the Start button, ike Windows XP you’ll find the Task Scheduler under the Start Button -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Schedule tasks.

Here’s the new Vista Task Scheduler as shown in the image below. It is more complicated looking for average users than the Task Scheduler in Windows XP.

Step 2: Making the Task...

Picture of Making the Task...

In the Actions column on the right, click Create Basic Task…

You’ll see the following window and I’ve already filled in the Name and Description of our task as shown in the picture below...
now fill in the name and the description of the task that you want to do which is in this case an automatic shutdown...

Step 3: Setting Triger and Date for Your Task...

After clicking Next you’ll see the Task Trigger screenas shown below. if you are like me and want to shut down your Vista PC in the middle of the night, every night so you have to pick daily. You can choose any time that suits you of course...

now after you have set the trigger, click next and the next screen you’ll see is the Start Date and Time screen as shown below in the second image.

Step 4: Set the Action and the Start a Program Screen

Picture of Set the Action and the Start a Program Screen

after you click next you will get the action screen as shown in the picture below...
choose Let’s Start a program and click next.

then you will get the start a program screen as shown in the picture below...

type in the Program/script input box the following C:\Windows\System32\Shutdown.exe

in the add arguments input box put /s as shown in the figue below

and then click next

Step 5: Edit the Summary Screen...

Picture of Edit the Summary Screen...

now fill in the text boxes in the same way they are typed in in the image below, nevertheless you can put in the trigger text box what best suites you of course...
after you fill them up click finish...

Step 6: PRESTO!

Picture of PRESTO!

after you have created this shutdown task, you can continue your work and downloads until windows vista reaches the time you had specified when you made the task, when the time you specified comes, vista's task fires off and starts to automatic shut down. A window pops up telling you that Windows will shut down in less than a minute(as shown in the figue below..). You can click on the Close button but that will just close that window and Windows itself will continue to shut down!
GOOD LUCK
HOPE YOU LIKED BY INSTRUCTABLE ALL VISTA LOVERS! ;)

please leave a comment and a vote expessing what you think about my instructable thx!

Wonderful! Tried doing this thro Task Scheduler but it wouldn't work. (My PC's my TV too and I sometimes fall asleep watching so I can set this up to happen at 2ish in the morning, then when my mains auto switch turns off at 2:15 the PC will already be shut down. Thank you.

Nice instructable. I can use this to help me remember to shut off my computer at night in case i forget. Be nice if businesses programmed this on computers to make sure everyone shuts down their PC after going home. Could save lots of money $$$
