Step 5: Binding off

To bind off take the loop from your little finger and put on your ring finger. Now take the loops on your ring finger and put them on your middle finger. Do the same for your middle and index fingers. now, take the loops off your finger, put the end of the yarn in the loop. take the loop and tie a overhand knot to finish it.
Try emilyvaneemput's version of this. Much easier!

http://www.instructables.com/id/HANDmade-scarf/
This looks handy, but I don't follow. I wish there was a bit of video of the technique
my friend was making one of these at school today and now i'm gonna surprise her with the one i'm making :D
My girlfriend started one last night at my house, I'm going to finish it and surprise her with it tomorrow.
theres a SUPER easier way. you do it on the back of your hand and its alot less complex
have you a link to some instructions for that? :)
I'm on my dads account and I love to do this I had a sought of phase of having to do it. it beats doing homework any day cazzy
This is a very cool idea. Aside using it as some kind of decoration what other practical applications does it have? Is it stronger than a weave? Pretty cool. Thank you.
Im not shoure about any practical uses, I was just board one day so kind of just made it up. Im not shoure if its stronger than a weave but its pretty strong, think of it like this: one strand of yarn can hold x amount of weight but, the chain (8 strands of yarn) can hold 8x amount of weight.
I saw on a craft blog once that someone took a lenght of "chain" they made this way and felted it (by boil washing the chain a couple of times). Then made that chain into a spiral and stitched it together to make a dining chair cushion. Looked really good.
Thanks, I use to do this! I think i'm going to try that soon!
wow i wish i could do that.
can you use other materials other than yarn. eg. string, cotton, rope(on a larger scale)???
yes, ive used sizes from 1mm-1cm. and materials from simple yarn to 1mm elastic cord
could u like once u have the chain there knit the chain again so it gets bigger so u could make it a scarf
OK, you're sitting there with a mile and half of chain. What next?
You make a chain out of the chain you have, obviously.
This could get awfully recursive...
Actually, I wonder if this could be used as the foundation for some sort of woven blanket.
sooooo adictive, ima start now =P
