Hello my name is FXAscensionz and I thought i would show how I custom painted my nerf guns.
Lets start of with something smaller, The Nerf Maverick. I chose a battle- damaged black and silver but feel free to use any colour that suits you. Lets Get Started!

Step 1: Gathering Equipment

You Will Need:

A Nerf Maverick (obviously)
A Phillips Head Screwdriver
Sandpaper (optional)
A Can of Plastic Primer
A Can of Black Paint
A Can of Silver Paint
Time
And Patience

Step 2: Disassembling the Gun

REMEMBER TO REMOVE ALL DARTS AND MAKE SURE GUN IS NOT COCKED BACK BEFORE OPENING

First use your Phillips Head Screwdriver to remove the 3 screws located in the cocking mechanism (it will split into 2 pieces with a spring loaded orange piece used in the tactical rail)

Next Carefully remove the first side of the gun. Remember to do this gently or the plastic will crack, this will leave you with the internal pieces exposed.

Gently lift out the 6 dart chamber and the barrel piece. set these aside for painting.

Remove the inverted plunger and spring (the orange tube at the top with a spring on it) then remove the catch (the hollow square that held the inverted plunger)

Finally remove the internal screws and set aside, then remove the spring at the top, the trigger and the rotating mechanism near the chamber. Underneath this is the chamber release button and a spring, remove those as well. KEEP EVERY SCREW AND SPRING IN A SAFE PLACE AND DO NOT LOOSE THEM

Step 3: Preparing and Painting

It is optional to prep the parts that you want to paint with sandpaper, but i decided not to because i was using plastic primer as a substitute.

Paint an thin even coat of plastic primer on the pieces that you want to paint waiting 20-25 minutes between each coat ( i used 2 coats per piece)

Then repeat but with the colour of your choice (i painted the paint body of the gun with 2 coats of black,the chamber and cocking mechanism i painted with 2 coats of silver paint)

LEAVE ALL PIECES TO COMPLETELY DRY

Step 4: Adding Detail

I decided to give my gun a war torn feel and dry brushed some silver battle damage into the black casing of the gun. I also dry brushed the lettering "MAVERICK REV 6" to give the gun some character.

Dry brushing is made by painting a colour like silver onto your paintbrush and the painting onto a cloth or towel to remove colour, then brushing the surface

Step 5: Reassembling the Gun

The procedure of reassembling the gun is the exact reverse of disassemling it.

Replace the chamber release button and place the spring back ontop of it

Screw back in the big rotating mechanism followed by the trigger (The trigger spring connects onto the nearest peg within the shell and the other end will latch onto a hook on the trigger. This was a problem for me but eventually i figured it out)

Replace the spring at the top, place the catch back into place (be mindful of the spring) then insert the plunger with spring connected back into the catch

Add the chamber and barrel back into place

Find the half of the cocking mechanism that has a metal pin on it and place it so that it is through the internal spring at the top but remains outside the shell.

Screw the top half of the body back together and match up the two halves of the cocking mechanism, replace the spring loaded tactical rail attachment. screw together

Step 6: Finish
