Hello,
My name is "Grease" and this is my first Instructable.
I would like to "Thank You" for stopping by.

Have you ever seen the 3D Anamorphic pictures that Julian Beever has drawn on the sidewalks, streets and driveways
.
Well, this is my version of doing it, on printed paper, from your computer.
I did do a chalk drawing of the lighter.
You will have to go to step 8, to see all the pictures.

It is pretty simple to do.
I did all my artwork in Coreldraw X3.
Any Vector program would work.

I used a cigarette lighter, as the artwork.

Take a second and make sure and give me a VOTE!t;

I think it worked out quite well!
If you want to learn my technique,
please proceed on...

Can YOU tell which is the REAL lighter??

Step 1The GRID

The GRID
The first thing I did was draw the grids as shown below.
I drew the blue grid first.
Then I added perspective to the blue grid and turned it into a black grid.
(you could trace over my grids)

In Coreldraw X3 I used the Add Perspective Effect.

Well...I spent all day yesterday working on this and I think I might have it nailed down to the closest PhotoShop CS4 can get ( I have CS4 I discovered & not CS5) I'm not happy with my final photos, but I haven't used a tripod yet. I did get a semi illusion of dimension, but because of the difference of the positions, you could really tell which one was the real one. Progress!

Hey G, Chris from FastgrafX here I do alot of Wraps and woul like to apply the gird tech to a vertical flat surface like a wall or door pannel. Would this be possible and if so can you help me with the process? I have made your grid and currently Im testing anf toying with making some 3d floor graphics from wrap vinyl. Would also want to do some holes in the floor with ads, those seem to get the most atten.
Great write up by the way!

I'd just like to remind everyone that it's very easy to print out 3D anamorphic images or grids for transfer to sidewalk using BSAsidewalk3D. No math required, no cut and try. Just load your image, set up the viewing position and the size of the resulting image and print out the projection grid or save the projection to a file. More fun and less fuss. Available at a very low price for both Mac and Windows. Visit www.BionWare.com for details.

Hi, great tutorial, I'm gonna try it. I have used a great graphic tool for a long time called Gimp. It's free and it has a "perspective" tool that will allow you to do this if anyone is looking for a free tool.

Hi, it's a nice work you have done. I haven't seen anything like this before and street art is not popular in my country. Would you please answer some of my questions....
1. How to do this (perspective) thing with Illustrator/Photoshop?
2. Please describe the 3D & Grid part.
3. How should I photograph or art on a paper to do this? and
4. How should I calculate the distance?
It would be a great help if you give me the answers.
I really liked your work, both this one and the Tatoo
Thanks.

I turned it into my weekend project, check it out at: http://scarreddot.carbonmade.com/projects/3167600#1

Keep it up!

-On a sidenote, does anyone know a better place to get black chalk other than out of a 52 count crayola sidewalk chalk.

Thanx 4 the posts but how you changed the black lined grid in the perspective view becus for sidewalk paintings, we should shape it according to the viewer's height and the distance from the bottom of the black grid. How to be sure abt it ?
