OK, dishes is a non valued position in the household.

Nobody wants to do it but everybody wants it done.

I have made a routine for doing dishes on your own, I do it everyday and it works a treat.

Why should you either do the dishes once and why should you do them after every meal?

In my opinion they should be done after every meal to save build up.

So, read on to find out my method of doing dishes!

Step 1: The Lazy Person Before You.

So, if this is lunch or dinner dishes there probably are some dishes left to air dry on the rack.

You need to remove these before starting anything in the kitchen.

Once you have these removed gather all the cutlery and utensils, put them in the bottom of the sink if it is clean.

If it is not lean, give it a rinse first.

Now, put the plug and detergent in and start filling the sink with fully hot water.

* Detergent in my dictionary is as follows:

DETERGENT DETER-GENT the substance to keep men out of the kitchen.

see 'deter' and see 'gent'.

That is my thought on it anyways.

Step 2: Leftovers and Rubbish

Now after you filled your sink with water, deal with the leftovers.

Put cling wrap over the fruit and put the meal stuffs in a air tight container.

Now gather all the prepared food and put it in the respective storage place; fruit and meal stuffs go in the fridge, unused spreads (e.g. Vegemite, peanut butter etc) go in the pantry.

Put all the rubbish in the bin.

Now continue!

Step 3: First Dish Load

Now we can stack all the dishes accordingly and wash all the corelle/plates and bowls.

Stack all these on the rack accordingly; plates first, shallow bowls next, deep bowls and the last of the corelle last.

Now we dry our hands and pick up the tea towel and start drying thinking about the poor people in the 1870's to keep the spirits high.

Once you have dried all the corelle you put the tea towel down and continue.

Step 4: Cups, Sharp Knives and the Last of the Corelle.

Now we wash the cups, sharp knives and the last of the corelle.

In our family we have three categories of knives:

Bread knives, these are used for spreading stuff on toast or sandwiches.

Steak knives, these are sharp but they don't require as much care as the Sharp knives.

The Sharp knives require lots of care, these knives usually cost from $50 and upwards and are stored in a knife block..

Never put the Sharp knives onto stuff that could damage them.

Stack the cups wisely as you may not have enough space on the rack for them all.

Never put the sharp knives into the rack, instead put the on the rack like shown making sure they are stable.

Now we get the tea towel again and dry this lot of dishes.

Step 5: Next We Will Do the Breadboards and Any Wooden Utensils.

To wash a wooden breadboard, never use soapy water because it can ruin the wood.

The plastic board however is fine.

Give the plastic board a wipe down and put it onto the rack.

Wipe the wooden board next and put it onto the plastic board like shown.

Now we can wash the wooden utensils.

Yet again, we have to dry the dishes.

Step 6: Steak Knives, Utensils and Bulky Dishes.

Now we get the Steak knives out of the sink.

If your dish rack has a stand up area for the cutlery that is good if not that is OK.

When we have washed the knives we put them either in the rack blade down or we put them on the rack blade horizontal.

The reason for doing so is to protect your fingers from getting nasty cuts like I unfortunately experienced.

Again, we have to dry the dishes to clear the rack for the next lot.

Step 7: Last Time!

Now, depending on how dirty your water is depends on what we wash next.

My water is bad but not too bad so we will wash the cutlery.

If the water was oily, or I couldn't see the cutlery I would have changed it out.

So, we now wash the cutlery and what ever is left.

For the last time we dry the dishes leaving only super hard to dry items like jars.

If you leave jars on the rack it is best you leave the lids on there too for easy finding.

Now we hang the tea towel up on the handle of the oven.

Step 8: Empty the Sink

Now, we have finished washing we empty the sink.

I like to empty the sink and then wipe down the bench but the bench got wiped down by one of my siblings before I could get the message to them I was making an Instructable, so unfortunately I on't have photos of wiping the bench down :(

So back to the subject, to empty the sink we will need the strainer that goes into the water outlet.

You have to be quick with the swap-over thus not letting food down the drain.

Move the plug out of the way and as fast as you can, slide the strainer into the position.

Now, if you washed a lot of dishes there will be a lot of debris in he sink.

If tuo water stops flowing down the drain you will have to put your hand into the strainer and push the debris out of the way so the water van flow freely again.

Step 9: No More Water,

Now there is no water in the sink we can take out the full strainer and put in the empty one.

We now have to twist the tap like shown in the photo and turn it on full.

This should create a whirlpool and wash out and debris left in the sink.

Now we go to the next step.

Step 10: Empty the Strainer

Now we pick up the strainer between our thumb and fore finger and hold our other three fingers under it so it doesn't drip on the floor on the way across to the bin.

When we reach the bin, open it up with your free hand (or if you have a foot activated bin, use your foot) and tap the strainer onto the side quite hard.

This should result in the strainer being clean and the bin being dirty (like a bin should...).

Step 11: Finished!

You are now finished the dishes!

If there are two people doing the dishes, one person can wash, stack and wipe down and the other person can dry, clear the rack and help anywhere else the other person is having trouble with.
