Introduction: How to Gift Wrap Presents With Pleates!

This instructable will show you how to wrap presents with pleats to give them a unique look.

Note: this is also my first instructable ever so bare with me if it is unorganized or a little confusing.

Step 1: Materials You Will Need

Here you fill find a list of material you will need, some you will find laying around the house.
For this step you will need the following:
-Present!
-Wrapping Paper
-Straight Edge
-Ruler
-Knife
-Tape
-Cutting Board or table that you wont mind getting cuts in it from the knife

Step 2: Measuring and Cutting

Start off by unrolling your wrapping paper and placing your gift on the paper so you can get a pretty good idea of the amount of paper you will need to use to cover the gift.

Next, place one of the edges of the wrapping paper in the middle of the box, role the other side of the wrapping paper making sure it overlaps the starting point and reaches the opposite edge.

Measure the side of the present and cut extra wrapping paper alongside the box. In this case it looks about 3" so you will only need about 2.5" of wrapping paper alongside the box.

Measure the wrapping paper and cut.

Now you should be left with 2.5" on both sides of the box, also save the scrap paper that you cut off to make the bow!

Step 3: Making the Pleates

Start off by tapping the starting point down to keep the wrapping paper in place.

Next on the opposite side crease the paper for reference.

Cover the box with wrapping paper about half way and then fold it back and put tape on both sides to secure the paper.

Now place the ruler on the edge of the wrapping paper and fold the paper back over the ruler, the ruler serves as a straight edge. This step will be repeated on the opposite side. Repeat this step 3-4 times to add the amount of desired pleats without running out of wrapping paper. Refer to the pictures for a visual.

Make sure you tape down every pleat to keep the paper from moving.

Lastly you will end up with 3-4 pleats and some extra wrapping paper for the finishing touch.

Step 4: Finishing the Pleated Edge

In this step you will learn how to finish the wrapping paper with one last pleat.

Take the paper and fold it back to the edge.

Next fold the paper alongside to make it even with the box's edge as shown in the picture.

Take the folded edge and fold it back over as shown in the picture and tape it down.

Step 5: Folding in the Sides

Start with taping down the pleated sides as showing in the picture to make it easier when folding in the sides.

next fold down the top flap

fold in the corners as shown in the pictures.

use the ruler to make a even fold and then fold up the flap and tape it down.

do the same for all sides.

then you will be left with your finished product!

Step 6: **Bonus: Making the Bow**

Here are the last steps on how to make the bow!

using the left over scraps, unroll them and use the straight edge to cut them into 6 strips.

next you will weave the 6 strips as shown in the picture and tape them down on the desired location.

once they are taped down you will notice that they start to curl and you want to make them curl up to the weave and then tape them down. you will do this for all the strips until you finish the bow.

once your finished you will be left with a unique gift with pleats and a homemade bow.

enjoy!!
