Step 2: Hook Up the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable
Steps:
1. Unplug The Old Cable From Your Xbox 360.
2. Unplug the VGA cable out of your monitor.
3. Insert the AV Connector on the Cable Into The Xbox 360.
4. Screw The VGA Cable Into Your Monitor
NOTE: I have a composite cable on my monitor so there will be no pictures for this step. I am sorry.

the xbox official HDMI cable comes with an audio adapter as well as the HDMI cable itself. this makes the picture and the audio run out of 2 different ports from the xbox 360. The audio out of the old port on the xbox and the picture out of the HDMI
This is only for the newer xbox as thay have the HDMI port
Sorry forgot to say that you need a HDMI to DVI-I adapter most LCD monitors have both VGA and DVI-I which they are phasing out the VGA plug just the same as they are with the RCA to HDMI
the reason you need a HDMI to DVI-I instead of the HDMI to VGA is that the HDMI to VGA dont exsist.....The VGA signal is basicly analog and the DVI-I is digital so they arent compatable......i know that is a grossly under explination and that someone will correct me but i have already wrote enough lol if you want to noe why they are different look it up lol
It should be said that older monitors do not have the proper VGA receptacle. They instead have a cable coming directly out of the monitor (in which case this instructable will not work).
If you can unplug the VGA cable from your monitor, then give this instructable a try. You will not damage anything by simply plugging your Xbox 360 VGA cable into your monitor. The worst that will happen is: nothing. You'll see a blank screen. And you can always return the cable.
As far as the green cable goes, this instructable is trying to point out your computer's speaker cable (which is usually color coded green). If you want sound to come out of your computer's speakers you will need to buy a female dual RCA to female stereo 3.5mm adapter (found here and here). This will take the red and white RCA cables from the Xbox and adapt them to fit your computer's speaker cable.
will the same thing work for a regular x-box system ???
and.. what exactly do I purchase at radio shack ? is it a VGA HD AV cable. When you go to Radio Shack they have this blank stare on their face !!!!
Thanks for the help
George
If you're really jonesin' to play on a monitor, you can buy a converter box (link).
