How to jailbreak ipod touch with firmware 4.2.1 or lower

This is my first instructable on how to jailbreak an ipod touch with firmware 4.2.1 or lower.  Jailbreaking you ipod gives you many opportunities for free stuff like music and videos, you have a theme on your ipod and so much more.  A lot of people may think it takes a genius to jailbreak an ipod touch but I'm 15 and i have jailbroken 4 out of 4 i have tried to.  also it is an un-tethered jailbreak and it doesnt work for 2nd gen ipod touches that are mc models.  you can find out the model the same place the firmware is.

Step 1: Check your firmware

check your firmware to make sure it is 4.2.1 or lower. go to setting then general and it is under version.

It keeps failing to jailbreak, the DFU works and i start the jailbreak, at first it went black and failed and wouldnt turn on, tried agian and it ent white and didnt work, shal i just keep trying?

me too after those black screen with messages running, the apple icon becomes the poison apple icon.. I waited for quite a while and I'm glad that it was gone and I was in my home page and i looked at the last page, there is an app named Loader and so I am now downloading cydia... wow, thanks a lot, I did jailbreak my ipod on my own using your guide... so happy! :)

Help after trying a few times to start the jailbreaking my ipod touch 2nd gen went black and will not turn back on. Held the sleep button nogood, held the home button while plugging in to usb still nothing.
please help

hi, ive gone through the process 3 times time now everything went ok apart from not having the loader icon on the ipod to download cydia!any ideas? cheers

Had troubles the first time putting my iPod Touch 2nd Gen into DFU mode. So I had to redo those steps, and when I did the Green Poison window didn't recognize that it was in DFU mode. So I had to restart that portion but I tried it again and the window recognized that it was in DFU mode and it started to do it's work. It Jailbroke it, the screen on my iPod came up with all the white text as if it were a CMD and once that finished my iPod restarted itself. I went to the Loader icon and once Cydia was done downloading I believe it restarted the iPod again, loaded up Cydia, waited for that and bam! Successful Jailbreak within an hour or two. Confusing as first, you're not alone out there people, but I understand now. Thanks!!!

Hey there TTHROWER18- i have a iPod Touch 4th Generation Version 4.2.1 and I downloaded the Jailbreak app (poison something whatever its call to my PC) however when I plug in my ipod it tells me my device is not supported. Also I do not have that LOADER app you say we are supposed to have on the last page on the iPod to download Cydia.
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO? PLEASE HELP YOUR METHOD SEEMS THE EASIEST ONE OUT THERE AND IT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME. CAN YOU HELP ME?

no its not i used it on my 4th gen 64gb and it worked like a charm. it says that mc model 2nd generations do not work with this jailbreak.

I have been trying to jailbreak my ipod touch. I follow the instructions as it tells me to do, but it wont jailbreak. I have tried time and time again but everytime I hold the home button and sleep button and do what it tells me after it's finished it asks me to try again and when I look for the loader app it's not there. I am doing it right by the instructions but it won't jailbreak. What is the problem???? Please help, I really want to get this thing jailbroken.

PLease Help! I did the whole thing but in the end when I clicked jailbreak it loaded and and said "Quit (restart and retry)" So I pressed quit and now my itouch 4.2.1 will not turn on... Please help and explain what to do.

That happened to my itouch to you need to hold the home and power button for 5-15 seconds and then it will turn on.

to download cydia yes you need wifi but for the jailbreak you need a computer your ipod cord and your itouch and an internet connection

ok mine only comes up the usb and the cd thing thats it then some times it trys to charge
