Introduction: How to Jump Start Your Car

Recently I had to jump start my car battery but had no idea how to do so. I figured I was not the only one who has had this problem so I have decided to provide you with a guide on how to jump start your car if you are ever in a pinch.

Step 1: Step 1:

Place the car with the dead battery in park and open the hood

Step 2: Step 2:

Park the car with the good battery in front of the car with the dead battery and open the hood

Step 3: Step 3:

Locate the batteries of the cars and find out which terminals are negative and which are positive. The positive one will be red with a plus sign on it. The negative one is usually just a bolt with a negative sign. You will be able to tell if it is the correct bolt because it will have a thick black wire connected to it.

Step 4: Step 4:

Take out the jumper cables. The cables will be colored to match the terminals. The red cable will be red and the negative cable will be black

Step 5: Step 5:

Connect one positive clamp to the positive terminal on the dead battery (1) and then the other to the positive terminal on the good battery (2)

Step 6: Step 6:

Connect one negative clamp to the negative terminal on the good battery (3) and then the other to the negative terminal on the dead battery (4).

Step 7: Step 7:

Start the car with the working battery. Once it is on try starting the car with the dead battery.

Step 8: Step 8:

Once the car with the dead battery is running disconnect the jumper cables in reverse order then how you put them on.

Step 9: Step 9:

Let the car that originally had the dead battery sit for awhile, rev the engine slightly in order to charge the battery and you should be all good to go.
