Jumpstyle is a type of dancing developed in Belgium from a type of kicking martial arts. It is now practiced primarily in Europe mainly the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France. Jumpstyle refers to both the dance and the music which the dance is usually done too, though it does not need this specific type of music. Jumpstyle, or simply "jump" as it is often referred to, does require fast paced dance music with a tempo around 140 and 150 Beats per Minute (BPM) to be done fluidly.

Jumpstyle is composed of two basic steps the basis, and tricks. Tricks are complicated and vary depending on individuals, no specific tricks need to be included.

CAUTION: Jumpstyle can cause high stress on knee joints.

Step 1: Finding Music

To Jumpstyle properly it should be done to specific music.
To find this music the simplest way is to search http://www.youtube.com/ for "jumpstyle music" or "hardstyle music".

NOTE: Any dance music with a heavy base drum, and a tempo of 140 to 150 BPM will suffice to jump to. The variety of this music quite extensive so music can be found to taste.
NOTE: A popular starting song for learning to jump is found on this page of youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffvV5-dE_Y0.

Step 2: The Basis

The basis consists of six simple steps:

ATTENTION: Ensure that you have enough space to do each step without banging against anything or anyone.

1: Jump straight up and tap your left foot on the ground behind with your toe you as you come down.

2: From the first position jump straight up and tap your right foot on the ground behind you with you toe as you come down, letting your left foot fall flat.

3: From the second position jump straight up and kick forward with your right foot, letting your left foot fall flat..

4: From the third position jump straight up and kick forward with your right foot, letting your left foot fall flat..

5: From the fourth position jump straight up and kick forward with your left foot,, letting your right foot fall flat..

6: From the fifth position jump straight up and repeat each step beginning at step 1.

NOTE:The basis should be practiced until it can be done effortlessly.
NOTE: Pay attention to arm movements while practicing, though arms are not technically a part of Jumpstyle it does look better if your arms swing  rhythm with your legs.

Step 3: The Basis (cont.)

After the Basis can be done with relative ease, it is time to start practicing with music. This means landing on the ground with every beat of the song being played.

ATTENTION: As you begin to go faster body movements can become dangerous, ensure that you have enough space to jump without hitting anything.

Step 4: Tricks

After the Basis can be done in beat with the song tricks can be added. Tricks are typically added after two repetitions of the basis. Then in between steps 4 and 5 on the third repetition of the basis a trick is added in.

NOTE: An example of one trick is included in these instructions.

Step 5: The Half Twist

The half twist involves 8 steps:
1: From step for of the Basis, jump straight up, turn your body 90 degrees to the right, as you kick to the left  with your left leg simultaneously.

NOTE: This kick will be forward relative to your body prior to the turn.

2: From the first position jump straight up, turn another 90 degrees to the right, and tap your right foot behind with your toe simultaneously.

NOTE: You will now be facing the opposite direction from your starting position.

3: From the second position jump straight up and kick forward with your right foot.

4: From the third position jump straight up and kick forward with your right foot.

5: Jump straight up, turn your body 90 degrees to the right, as you kick to the left  with your left leg simultaneously.

NOTE: This kick will be forward relative to your body prior to the turn.

6: From the fifth position jump straight up, turn another 90 degrees to the right, and tap your right foot behind with your toe simultaneously.

NOTE: You will now be facing the same direction of your starting position.

7: From the sixth position jump straight up and tap your right foot behind with your toe.

8: From the seventh position transition back into the Basis by jumping and kicking forward with right foot.

NOTE: This is the fourth step of the Basis.
