I had made Blooming Cupcakes using little mints and decorative sugars...then I found out that you can get the same look, with mini marshmallows! It is incredibly simple! As a matter of fact, it is EASIER! :D

Needed:
Bag of mini marshmallows
Colored decorative sugars, divided by color into little seal-able sandwich baggies
Food scissors

Cut each mini marshmallow in half on a diagonal. you will end up with 2  'petals' from each marshmallow.

Place the 'petals' into a bag of decorative sugars, and give it a little shake. The sugars will only stick to the part of the marshmallow that was cut!

If you let them 'rest' for a few minutes, they will puff back up.

Carefully place your marshmallow 'petals' onto your cupcakes! They look great with little candies in the center, or pipe the center in with icing.

Hint: Using big marshmallows will give you a different look! Check out picture 2 for what the large 'petals' look like!

These look even easier than the other ones! And the petals still look awesome.

They are a LOT easier, but look so similar! I LOVE the way the big marshmallow petals turned out, it gives you a whole new look!

Next time I am going to cut the big petals in half lengthwise and layer them, try to make hibiscus...

Beautiful!
I agree, the green licorice IS pretty gross, but it looks so cute as the stems!
I'm glad you enjoy the process as much as I do, it goes quick and is so much fun!

Where can I find the green Twizzlers used for the flower stem? I have not seen them anywhere?
Little Mom on the Prairie (author) in reply to dbennett1Jul 18, 2011. 1:42 PM
They are not twizzler brand, got them at our grocery store in the produce section

I didn't rate anyone else's ANYTHING, actually...not for the contest... So...if you don't have the ratings, try to get more views?

Its a numbers game.
Like...somewhere around 10% of the people who look at this stuff even bother to rate things unless you specifically point them towards that function. A lot of new users don't know about that part, so you have to tell your friends to get online and rate you/vote for you. Or get more views.

Not to mention...if you thought I was being devious like that, why not send me an email instead of being rude on the comments section? Just sayin'.

Thanks! I like yours too!

I don't see that this individual even entered, and honestly?
I run four companies from my home,I have children, a husband and a brother who live in my home. I don't have time for petty stuff.

Cupcakes are cupcakes and this is a contest for fun.

Keywords play a part in searches,too...use the wrong ones and no one sees your thing in the search.

Little Mom on the Prairie (author) in reply to 29morekidsJun 19, 2011. 9:07 AM
people have been telling me this since yesterday. I sent an email to Instructables, since obviously its a glitch and not sabotage :)

I hope that they can get it fixed, so that the contest is fair.

worked for me :)
cafeeenee says: Jun 15, 2011. 5:12 PM
I used to make these with my sisters when we were little, too. I think its interesting that a lot of the old tricks are coming back.
Its funny, those of us who have been 'DIY'ing since the cradle have seen most of this stuff before...and now all of a sudden someone is making money off of putting them into books.
Maybe YOU should write a book!
towelsgotfunk in reply to cafeeeneeJun 15, 2011. 5:39 PM
based on what you hav published so far you can call it "I can do anything you can do,better" lol
HollyMann says: Jun 14, 2011. 11:45 AM
I bought the book "What's New Cupcake" and it had this recipe in it. I made it last year for my nieces. People were pretty amazed - just beautiful and simple! Kids helped make them too. Great job!
Calelovezit in reply to HollyMannJun 14, 2011. 12:11 PM
wow Ive always wanted to buy a cookbook specifically for one thing, like cupcakes...but I cant afford it! lol how cool.
HollyMann in reply to CalelovezitJun 14, 2011. 1:16 PM
yeah it was a little expensive but has the cutest ideas in it...amazon is a great place to get books cheap!
Little Mom on the Prairie (author) in reply to HollyMannJun 14, 2011. 2:40 PM
Its so funny, I am now seeing a lot of the tricks my stepmother taught me as a kid pop up EVERYWHERE. I think she would be tickled to know that some of the things we used to do are in books and on the internet now!
