Orange Julius: A Summer Refresher

 by Randomguy65

We have all had those really hot days right? Your really hot, on your couch, with only a ceiling fan cooling you off. I've had a day like that. Well here is a simple drink that is easy to make and is also perfect for warmer seasons!!

*NOTE* DO NOT drink in a very large amount. You WILL get a stomach ache.

Step 1: Ingredients

You will need:

1 Blender
 Various measuring cups/spoons

Original recipe: (I used this one, and tastes a little better)

1 cup Orange Juice (this can be increased)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk (I used 2%)
1 cup water
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Ice

Vanilla Ice Cream recipe:

1 cup Orange Juice
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup Vanilla Ice cream
1/4 cup milk
1 cup water
Ice

NOTE *I would advise vegans NOT to use soymilk (almond etc.) as the vegetable and nut source will act bad with the citrus during digestion. Meaning, you will have a very hard time digesting it.*

This is so good i love it but try putting a spoon load of sweetened condensed milk in it to....although that just might make it a little bit more unhealthy since there is a bunch of sugar in it

Skim milk and evaporated milk taste really awesome too.

Anyone have experience doing this with a milk substitute (soy, almond, etc.)?
Went vegan since my Julius childhood days.
kill-a-watt in reply to d4l3dJul 13, 2011. 5:55 PM
My pre-backpacking breakfast drink is OJ, vanilla, and coconut cream (from a can.)

Of course, I'm deliberatively trying to pack in as many calories as possible
d4l3d in reply to kill-a-wattJul 13, 2011. 7:50 PM
Thanks for this, but until I find something definitive on whether the body processes such large concentrations of vegetable source saturated fat differently than animal source, I'm staying away from all of it. The "science" I've seen so far has been biased in both directions. There may be more at stake than just calorie loading.
Randomguy65 (author) in reply to d4l3dJul 14, 2011. 11:01 AM
The large amount of vegetable source will act bad with the citrus during digestion, I just found out.
d4l3d in reply to Randomguy65Jul 14, 2011. 11:40 AM
Thanks. Kinda thought so. Though I was referring to saturated fat directly above, this is more immediately relevant. I vaguely remember that and it's probably most distressing with (soy)bean based substitutes ... which was what prompted my original question.

Thanks.

(I'm sure you realize by now that milk product is not the same as milk substitute and means something derived from milk and by definition, not vegan.)
