Introduction: How to Make Sausage Gravy.

This recipe comes from my Mother and her twin sister. Experimenting with recipes was one of those things that my Mom did. Some time ago, she came home from a week long fishing trip with her sister and prepared for us a version of sausage gravy that they had come up with. It soon became the only way that we would make it.

A few years ago we fixed this for some friends who were spending the weekend with us. We wanted to feed them a hearty breakfast that would hold us as we walked through a large flea market. When they stayed with us for the same flea market the next year, the only thing that they asked from us is that we fix them some of the delicious sausage gravy… A tradition was born.

.

Step 1: The Ingredients:

You will need:
1 pound of sausage.
1/3 cup of flour.
Milk.
3 slices of American cheese.
1 package of large biscuits.

Step 2: Cook the Sausage

Brown the sausage in an skillet. Once the sausage starts cooking, put your biscuits in the oven. They will be done at just about the same time as your gravy.

When the sausage is completely cooked, add the 1/3 cup of flower. Stir the flower into the meat and continue cooking it for about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Thicken

After the 5 minutes is up add some milk. Start out slowly, you can always add more milk. Stir in the milk and let it start to thicken.

Step 4: Say, "Cheese!"

Here is the strange part… Once you have reached the desired consistency in your gravy, tear up the 3 slices of American cheese and add them to the skillet. Stir in the melted cheese…

Step 5: Enjoy!

Serve the gravy over some hot biscuits… And you are done!
