How to make a COILGUN!

Step 1: Materials

for this you will need;

capacitor bank ( http://www.instructables.com/id/EV2MC84ZATERXTS1L5/?ALLSTEPS follow steps 1,2 & 3)
transformer thing (you can find them on many circuits )
straw regular or coffee

tools;

scissors
screwdriver
Duct tape

What part of the capacitor bank do you attach the coils to?

You could easily make a more powerfull capacitor charger, with 1 NPN transistor, 2 resistors, 1 transformator, and 2 - 4 diodes. ;)

How do you know in wich direction the nail flies out ?

Use the right hand rule.
Grip the wire with your thumb pointing from positive to negative.
The direction that your fingers point in is the direction of the magnetic field.
I'm sorry for explaining that poorly; a little research on your part into the right hand rule should set you right.

LMAO take a guess and point it hope it doesnt shoot you in the face!!! Ah just kidding you usually put the ammo slightly outside the coil on the negative side. As it pulses, the field pulls the ammo first into the middle of the coil, then the field is shut off and the momentum propels it forward. Just think of it as a momentary magnet that pulls the ammunition then lets go.

would 1 transformer out of a UPS (uninterpretable power supply) it supports 2 screens and 2 modems. and surge protects 2 of anything.

what wires would i use to charge the capacitor on this kinds of transformer. there are 2 low gauge wires (black and red, duh thats power) but what do the other 3 on the opposite side do? they are a higher gauge wire, and when i charge my capacitors how to i charge them all at the same time, and have my voltmeter that has like 50 different other settings including capacitance. all of that hooked up at the same time. if someone can give me a link to how to do this it would be great.

my MAIN need is a label on how to hook the transformer up to the supply of power and into the capacitors to charge them. <---- that is what i want at least! please help!!!!!

Finally finished mine! Works really good, but I'm going to add 2 more capacitors to mine for a total of 6 so it shoots faster. I showed my mom and she wasn't happy that I'm making thing that shoot projectiles =/ so I might have it much longer. Anyways nice instuctable rating 5 cause it worked when I made it.
