How to make a Cardboard Mini Fridge using household and inexpensive materials!

Step 1: Materials

Cardboard Box
Scissors
On/Off Switch
Heatsink
Peltier Unit (Available from Ebay)
AC Adapter (7.5 Volts works nice)
Optional:
Paint
Shiny Tape
Standoffs
etc.

Step 2: Cut Hole!

Cut a hole in the bottom of the box the size of the heatsink, and one in the side, as big as you want the door to be!

Step 3: Attach heatsink

Attach the heatsink to the petier unit, the hot side will touch the heatsink. Then push the wires and switch inside.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

Put a piece of scrap metal on top of the peltier unit, put your drink on top, turn it on!

you COULD get one from an old computer

checck your area for a ESS (electronic supply store) they have almost defintly have all these parts
i would be inclined to check some online stores just type in heat sink on google

Cool little project you have there. I just have a few questions.

Would a TEC1-12705 Peltier Thermo Cooling Generator work for this project? It's 12-14V DC and 3-5A and a maximum 30W. The maximum difference in temperature is 60 ° c. I'm assuming that it would work, but I want a second opinion.

Also, I saw your heat sink and noticed it was quite small. Do they all have to be around this size? Do I need a larger heat sink for a larger volume of space?

Does it matter where I put the heat sink/peltier unit? Like say would I get different temperature drops if I put it on the bottom, top, sides, or rear.

I noticed that you put a piece of metal onto the peltier unit to place objects on and I think this limits the fridges holding capacity. Do I absolutely need a piece of metal for the objects to sit on or can I just have the peltier unit somewhere in the container and let it still cool what's inside.

That Peltier unit would do just fine. However, make sure whatever power supply your using can supply 30 watts. The heatsink size is up to you, bigger would be more effective. Location shouldn't matter either. If you're trying to cool a space, put a heatsink on both sides, a fan on the heat sink for the cold side would help the enclosure cool down faster.

Thanks for the fast reply! Yes I will be sure the power supply can supply at least 30 watts. I think I'd rather have the heat sink be at the bottom rear just for convenience. Does the fan blow in or out?

Cool project. Were you able to take a final temperature reading after it stabilized for a while? How cold does it get?

Hey man, was wondering is i put two heat sinks like one on eache side would it help to ge tthe cold air spreading?

It would make more sense to cool it from the top. Cold air drops.
wouldnt it be better if u put the peltier on top of the fridge (i llove ur fridge) cuz cold air drops and hot air rizes, and put a heatsink on the coolside of the peltier en aheatsink with fan on the hot side? and is is possible to connect this on usb power suply (drinks when gaming :) )
Now tell me, has anyone here actually tried that and achieved better results than having it on the bottom? Or is this all theoretical?
better results? of course there has been many research about heat and cold, take he central heating system: cold air comes from the bottom an gets heated up then it rises traveling to the top. but, if u put the cold side at the bottom then the drink is touching the heat-sink, if the drink is in a can then the metal conducts the heat better than just cooling the air in the fridge. conclusion: cold goes down and heat rises, contact with the object conducts the heat easier PS made my own fridge :P it holds 2 1.5 ltr cola bottles

Ohk Im Slightly Confused (Like Always :D) Anyways Could you just use a Heatsink Unit.. My Idea was to Get a Foam Box or a Cooler and Install a heatsink unit and 2 Fans on the sides connected to an Old PC Power Supply? Would that Work?

Cool, I just have a couple of suggestions: 1. Using thermal paste will greatly improve heat transfer 2. I noticed in the video that a lot of the heat sink from the hot side is inside of the refrigerator. This will prevent the inside of the refridgerator from becoming cool.
Yay, I built mine! It uses two phone chargers for power, two heatsinks from old CPUs, and has fans to improve efficiency. It also uses and insulated cup instead of cardboard to keep the heat out.
Did you use a peltier unit? I'm thinking of making something like this. I have plenty of materials for the case and insullatio, and I'll buy a peltier if I must, but my problem is with the heatsink. I found an "Evercool Chipset Thermal Package" in my familys computer desk. It's been in there collecting dust for years, It's probably long been obsolete. I'm sure it works, It's just I have no Idea how to use it or power it, and the page came with no instructions (It was pretty cheap).
Yeah, mine uses a peltier. Is that chipset thermal package a heatsink, a peltier, or both? If I know exactly what it is, I should be able to help.
