How to make a Paracord Leatherman Pouch

How to make a Paracord Leatherman Pouch
Hi everyone!
I would appreciate your votes for my instructable in the Paracord contest.
Ive made the pouch, now if only i had a leatherman to put in it instead of a piece of wood!

This instructable will show you how to weave a custom made pouch using paracord.
The method used can be easily modified to fit a range of items from multi-tools and torches to mobile phones. It is very simple to make and doesnt use any fancy or difficult knots.

This patricular pouch used a total of 25 feet of 550 paracord however if you are making a pouch for something larger then obvooisly you would need a little more.

When making anything its always best to start with the best materials you can find which is why i always recommend using genuine military spec 550 paracord. The better the cord the longer your pouch will last.

I hope you like the instructable!

Step 1Materials

Materials
For best results use genuine 550 Paracord. I purchase mine from supplycaptain.
As with anything in life you get what you pay for, if you want your pouch to last a long time you want to have the best cord available and with suplycaptain they guarantee the quality and authenticity of their cord. Many online retailers sell similar looking but poor quality cord with no guarantees on the durability ofthe cord.

1.  Approximately 30 feet of 550 Paracord, any colour you like.

2. Scissors to cut the cord

3. Lighter to seal the ends of the cord

4. A pair of forceps or needle nose pliers

5. A hair pin or if you have one a permalock needle (not essential but it helps with the weaving process)

6. A scrap piece of wood at least 18 inches long and 3-4 inches wide

7. Some drawing pins or something similar to hold the cord in place as you weave.

Is that lighter a turboflame? If it is, what gas do you use in it? Mine just keeps going out, but it used to work fine, so i'm hoping i'm just using the wrong gas and it's not a problem with the lighter :s

I'm going to try using some of the zillion parachute clips I have to make it able to attach to a belt loop. I don't wear belts often. Thanks for this Instructable, I would have probably bought one of those cloth-type ones had I not found this, my pocket knife gets dirt in it whenever I store it in my, well, pocket. :p

I did this successfully for a case for my smart phone. It is pretty sweet, I've added some pics . . . I added the belt loop a little crooked because I wanted the phone to be a bit slanted when on my belt to reduce the chance of the screen being broken due to excessive pressure. Thanks for the VERY useful instructable!:)

I made one of those for my younger sister, although measured to fit her cellphone. I used pink and grey laces for hockeyskates... forgot to document though, got to ask her to take a picture of it and send me so I can show you. trying to find the swedish equivalent of 550 paracord at the moment.

nice instructable and thanks.

Yo that's just a knock off on Leatherman. Leatherman has great quality mutitools and knifes so don't buy cheap copies buy the real deal
Nov 25, 2011. 6:47 PMsbacon says:
I am aware that it is a knock off, I have both that and a genuine Leatherman Blast. Both tools have served me very well. Although the Leatherman is of superior quality and has more features, I could not afford to purchase one at the time, and the Coghlan's tool was perfectly sufficient for my needs. I would not recommend it for everyone, but it is a good enough tool if you are on a budget. Gerber is also a very good tool, (arguably better than Leatherman in some respects) but if you are really looking for quality and have a few extra bucks lying around, then I recommend an SOG tool, both for their torque and the convenience of buying and installing alternate tools to swap into the handles.

Thanks for the write up. It was really easy to follow and basic

I added a row to make it wider and I fastened on a button with some of that leftover inside strands of paracord. I also made some belt loops.

Excellent write-up.

This is a really good Idea, I lost the pouch for mine and this will replace it quite easily. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Seems I have an unending supply of this paracord now that I made one for me all the guys here on the base with me in Iraq want one. Maybe I'll set up a sideline and make a little poker money too;

Congratulations on being selected as one of the paracord contest winners. This was definitely among my top three picks! And hopefully now you can replace that Leatherman knockoff with inferior blade material! ;)

is there a way to make it so it can hold a aa or aaa maglight ?
Sep 20, 2010. 5:29 PMTechDante says:
it would hyst be a case of replacing (wooden leatherman) with maglight and adjusting the dinemtions to fit. you would probebly need less horizontal strands for the maglight.

I just got through making mine today it took 5 hours to make. Mine Yours is way better than mine. I got the actual weaving down. the sides are what makes mine look bad, and the fact I made the pocket part too small. but other than I like it. thanks for the instructable

This is way too cool. I don't have a leatherman, but I bet it would work for my Swiss Army Knife.
Thanks

I like it a lot.  Better than the one I made in my belt tutorial.  I like the that yours is flatter and straight weaving produces a better looking finished product then mine, especially with gutted cord.

I used elastic shock cord for my lacing.

Nice instructable, thanks for sharing!

I made several of these paracord pouch/sheaths last year, and have used knot/loop closures for the flap, as well as loop/bdu button, and velcro sewn into the underside of the flap and a longer section on the front of the pouch for more adjustable lengths, depending on what was put in the pouch/sheath.  I found it best to sew on the velcro before folding the woven length and adding the cord for the sides.

For a more secure closure, I made one with a small side release buckle with lengths of elastic webbing attached to both ends, then sewn onto the pouch, added in conjunction with the velcro.  I cannibalized the small buckle and webbing that I used from an old cell phone belt holster.

Really nicely done. Just try to make the side weaving a little more closer so that it looks EVEN better. Good job.

This is great! I've been looking for a way to make a durable pouch for my leatherman. The Leather one didn't last as long as I had hope. Now i just need to wait for my paracord to arrive so I can make this!

I have an original first generation leatherman which I still wear but the leather case is falling apart...  I may have to try making one of those paracord cases!
