Introduction: How to Make a Protective Camera Case

In this step-by-step tutorial, you will learn how to make a simple protective camera/device holder with just a few materials. This case will protect your device from minor accidents or drops. So if you want to learn how to make it, keep reading, and have fun! :)

Step 1: Materials

~ Fabric of your choice
~ Basic Sewing skills
~ Needle and Thread
~ Bubble Wrap
~ Scissors
~ Camera
~ Button

Step 2: Cut the Fabric

Place your device a little above the bottom of your fabric. Grab the very bottom of your fabric, pull your hand up a little above your device covering it. The height of the fabric should now be double the height of the device, but now add about 4" or more depending on how large you want your flap to be (The lighter color of the fabric at the top is the flap to open and close the case). Cut the remaining including a 1" seam allowance on the left and right of the device. Here I am using a rotary cutter, but a scissors will work also.

Step 3: Add Bubble Wrap

The bubble wrap is what gives the case the hint of protection. Without including the flap, cut out a piece of bubble wrap that matches the size of the rest of the fabric cut out. Place it onto the wrong side of the fabric, bubbles faced down.

Step 4: Place Bubble Wrap on Your Fabric

Open out the whole holder, so that you could see the whole wrong side of the fabric. Cut another piece of the bubble wrap that resembles the size of the one cut before. You should now have two pieces of bubble wrap bubbles faced down onto the wrong side of your fabric.

Step 5: Flip Your Fabric Over

Flip over your fabric and bubble wrap as gentle as possible. The bubble wrap should now be underneath the fabric and you should see the right side of the fabric.

Step 6: Fold & Sew Your Fabric

From the bottom of your fabric, Pull up towards the top excluding the flap. Thread your needle and tie a knot at the end of it. Sew Down each side of the case also excluding the flap. Make sure to knot your thread properly at the beginning and end.

Step 7: Turn Your Case Right Side Out

When finished sewing, turn your case right side out and there you go, you are practically finished you case! But if you would like to have the ability to open and close your case, then we will add a button.

Step 8: Sew Your Button

If you would like to add a button, then position it on center top of the pocket part of your case (I placed the button on the flap so that I could tuck in the flap so I didn't have to hem it and it'll look neater. You could do this also). Sew as necessary.

Step 9: Cut for the Button

Now depending on where you placed your button, you are going to cut a slit a little smaller than the button so that the button could go through. If you placed your button on the flap as I did, then you will cut the slit at the same area, but on the pocket. If your button is on the pocket, do the opposite.

Step 10: Congratulations!

Button your case and you are now finished your camera/device case! Thank you for reading this tutorial and have a great day!
