You can pretty much Steampunk anything. Here's how to make a Steampunk Mr. Potato Head.

You will need:
a cutting mat
X-Acto knife
hot-glue gun
Dremel Tool Kit
Premo Sculpey - Baking Clay
Thick card stock paper
Discarded materials around the house. Plastics, wire, metal piping, ect.
Black, yellow, silver, and copper acrylic paint
Paint brushes
Sandpaper

Step 1: Make a rough sketch

I bought this Mr. Potato Head at Target for less than 10 bucks!

Sketching helped me get started. But ultimately, I let the the materials that were available to me guide me. I first envisioned my Mr. Potato Head to look more like the sketch in the upper right hand corner.

Oh man, I just went through your process photos and I gotta say... I really appreciate your attention to detail. This seems like such a fun project to make. Love your concept sketches, the ingenious use of materials, and the final piece.

Well you have my vote. I liked this kind of thing before, but I only just realised that steampunk was steampunk. I love it.
Any chance you'd be selling one or two of these?

Some guy made a Mr. Potatohead into a 'Stompa' from Warhammer 40k. ^-^

It seems like everyone is converting everthing in to steam punk and frankly I'm getting tired of the whole concept. But this is the coolest steampunk item I have ever seen! Your instructable is also very well written. Thanks alot!

This is awesome. I think it'd be easier for me to just buy one from you, though. Totally cool!

I could stare at a soap dispenser all day (note: but I wouldn't) and not think of the fact that it could be used as toy gun bits. Thank you! That is an invaluable idea! But I still say whatever leftover piping you had for the legs is far superior to any household item I have ever seen in my house. Also you made shaping/smoothing things of Premo look deceptively simple. ;) Excellent work - and I'm sure it was a lot of work!
zygomatic says: Sep 2, 2010. 12:04 PM
That's pretty rad!
frogmeetcog says: Sep 2, 2010. 10:35 AM
You need to make this guy a Mrs. Potatohead wifey... with perhaps more swordy instruments at her disposal, to compliment his firepower? Jawdroppingly awesome, old chap!
Laucas says: Sep 2, 2010. 10:28 AM
love your instructions, it turned out great. I'm going to try to make one for a Christmas gift.
