Introduction: How to Make a Bottle of Champagne Even More Romantic

Everyone knows that nothing helps make an evening more romantic than a bottle of good champagne. But what if you could make the occasion even a little MORE romantic? Here is a way to recycle a piece of trash into a treasured keepsake for that special someone.

Note, I didn’t submit this for the Valentine’s Day contest because I couldn’t get time to document it for the deadline. Also, I’m still hopelessly single and Valentine’s Day has always been a bitter day for me to realize that all my relationships have failed. 8>(

With that said, maybe it will help make one of your dates better. My days of dating (and women talking to me) seem to be over. 

Step 1: Pop the Top to Get Started

OK, open the bottle normally, just save that little wire cage. Drink the champagne, and you can subtly make this little item so you can present it to your significant other by the time you are done. I normally do this with just my multitool so it’s not a big deal. 

Step 2: Cut the Twisty Bit

 Just cut the twisty end off the rim of the wire cage. Note, some bottles’ cages are slightly different, so you might have to improvise to do this.
Remove the rim and put it aside for now.

Step 3: Bend the Feet

Take the main piece of the cage and bend the little “feet” out. Do this evenly to all of them. 

Step 4: Get Straight

 Remember that piece of the cage we put to the side? Well get it and straighten it out as much as possible. Don’t worry if the paint or coating comes off of it right now.

Step 5: Make the Heart

 Grab the wire in about the middle with the pliers and bend it over on both sides. Then work the wire around into a heart shape.
Get twisted

Twist the end once or twice to get a nice effect.

Step 6: Attach the Heart to the Base

 Wrap the bottom of the heart around the lip of the other part of the champagne cage. Wrap the ends around the legs so it doesn’t rotate around. Clip off any extra wire on either side.

Step 7: Finish and Present

If any of the wire was rubbed off when you were working it, just take a magic marker and touch it up. Now surprise you loved one with the little heart chair. It’s a keepsake that he/she can keep to remember the night. Over the years, you can keep track of the occasions where you drank the bubbly! Even better, each cap has a distinct pattern and you can identify which brand of Champagne it came from.
