Step 3 Making the dome frame

To make the top of the helmet, the "dome", I first make a cardboard ring and glue it into the top of the helmet. This will give the frame something to attach to. The dome frame is made from two interlocking cardboard semicircles and is then glued to the cardboard ring.

if I can't get my "ring" to fit, did I do something wrong, or can I just trim it down till it goes in, or will that mess things up later on?

You can just trim it if it's not too far off.

I'm creating my own star wars character would it work if I didn't add the antenna, because my character does not have one?

Sure! Just fill in the gap where the antenna stalk connects to the helmet.

Hey there!  I found your tutorial while doing a google search for tips for my own costume armor building, and this has been extremely helpful!  So I joined the site to ask one silly question; the base ring you cut for the dome frame, is it a "perfect" circle, or a little more oval, like the shape of a skull?

hey if you could make a ironman version of the helmet that would be great. by the way,do you have to make the upper head peices so thin. could you make them big? wright back please

I don't currently have any plans to make an Iron Man helmet. The bigger you make the dome pieces the harder it will be to get a good curve.

the frames in the templates seem to be to small, I used my own, and got a very unfortunate resolt :/ but I redid the the frame and it looks like it will barley fit on my head

The templates are for a movie sized helmet, which is pretty big.

I'm kind of lost the templates are a little confusing what are the back plates? I don't know I think I just need to stare at it longer, but any help would be great.

i printed out the plans and am trying to put the darn thing together....but it seems i'm not a good 3d puzzle builder....did you use ALL the pieces in your bucket?

what i didn't get was all those "inner surface" pieces....so what i ended up doing is building it over my 95 don post bucket. plus, i used craft foam sheets i bought for 2 bucks.

Yep I used everything. Some pieces are modified slightly due to the way I made the dome.

i'd assume that the ring is about the circumference of your/my/our skull? and the dome support only goes high enough to let the helmet settle on the head so you can see out of it?

Jango's helmet is identical except for the paint and the dent in the dome- go for it! :)
