Picture of How to Make a Pocket Sized Ninja Sword. (ninja Pocketknife).

This indestructable will teach you to make a mini version of the sword in the picture.
Everything will be made from scratch, but it can be made with things that are in your home.
This mini sword is like a homemade pocket knife but cooler.
You must have access yo power tools to do this project.

Some FLAT pieces of metal (steel is best) If you don't have any find a steel cooking pan and cut it in pieces.
Several packs of new shoe laces. Available at most shoe stores.
2x4s They don't have to be more than 2 feet long.
Wood glue
Scrap leather
All other materials will be described in the process.

Step 1: Making the Blade

Picture of Making the Blade

Every thing in this indestructable will be described using the metric system so you need to find a ruler
with centimeters and millimeters

To make the blade you will need your metal to be 3-5 millimeters thick.
Use a metal cutting saw to make the blade according to the diagram.
The end cut should be at 35 degree angle.

Use a angle grinder to make one side of the blade sharp. Use clamps to hold the blade in place while you grind.
You can also use a rotary tool to carve detail in the blade. If you have experience with engraving you can engrave your name on the blade.

Step 2: Making the Handle

Picture of Making the Handle

To make the handle you will need to cut one of the 2x4s to these specifications.

Then find a drill bit that is the same diameter that the thickness of the blade.
Be sure to mark your drill bit so you drill only 3cm in the wood.
Use a mallet to pound the blade in the handle.
Use some wood glue to help the blade stay in the handle.

Step 3: Making the Stealth.

Picture of Making the Stealth.

To make the stealth cut one of the 2x4s to these spesificatins.
Drill the holes like you did in the handle only make them slightly bigger so the blade can slide in and out.
Drill only 8 cm in the wood.
The basic sword is complete.
Now, making it look ninja.

Step 4: Decorating

Picture of Decorating

Sand all the wood with a low grit sandpaper. 30 works fine.
Now paint it all black.
Get the new shoelace and cut of the ends.
Apply wood glue to the sides of the handle and tightly wrap the shoelace in even rows.
Be sure to glue down the ends so the shoelace doesn't unravel.
You can use scrap leather to make straps.
If you did everything according to the instructions this is what your sword should look like.

Step 5: :Edit

 To make things simpler......................

Buy a blade........  I'm not sure what there called but there about 20 cm long and there replaceable blades for a big floor scraper you can probably find them in Home Depot or Lowe's.

Handle  Home Depot also has these long wooden stakes, for i presume holding tomato plants,
they are the same size needed for the handle and sheath but they need to be sanded and cut.

I don't get it ? Where do you put your money in this wallet ? This would be nice in the knife or sword category, but only if it had more directions and more pictures to show just what you did. I know it takes a lot of thought and planning to make one of these instructions, that's why I haven't yet, I have to admirer you.

pyromaniac123456789 (author)2014-01-22

Why is this in the wallet category?

stephenf (author)2013-09-19

Awesome! Do you (or anyone else) know of a tutorial/instructable about the braiding & wrapping of the handle cover?

eulaliaaaa! (author)2010-08-07

You could also pound a wooden wedge into the handle to make sure that the blade stays. That is what they use in axes. I heard a story of a duel between two samurai leaders, and one of them took the wedge out of the others sword, so the blade flew off in combat.

I think I will make something like that soon... Good job, too bad you didn't take photos. Also, remember that you can just use a file instead of a grinder... ;)... If you have some spare time.

its called a sheath not a stealth

skimmo (author)2009-09-13

could you just use a steel ruler?

weasel999 (author)skimmo2009-12-10

I added another step it has a better alternative

weasel999 (author)2009-12-10

trust me i did this pictures are coming but i dont know how soon

ElvenChild (author)2009-08-09

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS" I thought these were instructables

Joby-1-knoby (author)ElvenChild2009-10-03

lol ya

stoker221 (author)2009-06-29

could you curve the blade slightly let me kno

skimmo (author)stoker2212009-09-13

the curve is added on the tempering of a katana susing a forge and clay and its a very techincal prosses of heat treating and fast cooling

weasel999 (author)stoker2212009-08-06

you probably don't want to curve the blade since then it would not fit in the sheath

finfan7 (author)stoker2212009-06-30

That would have to be done when you were cutting the blade out. The curve in the real ones are caused by different contractions of two different types of steel.

camocam (author)2009-08-30

Can't you multiply the measurements to make a real life life sword out of this?

weasel999 (author)camocam2009-08-30

Yes but to make the sthealth you will need to use 2 pieces of wood and a router

qwertyman10 (author)2009-08-27

Could you include some pics of the final project? Otherwise, looks like a fun project.

servion (author)2009-07-30

More pictures would have be appreciated, but good instructable anyway ;-)

lmuli3 (author)2009-07-01

stoker221 (author)2009-06-29

good job dude

bowmaster (author)2009-06-23

I think step 3 should be "Making the sheath" not "Making the stealth". Other wise very good instructable.
