How to make a quick and easy clothespin gun

 by delerith

Step 1: Whats needed:

there are a few things needed as said before:
wooden clothespin (plastic will NOT work). These can be bought in a pack of 50 for a few dollars
knife or bottle opener
small rubber band or any rubber band. Like clothespins can be bought in large quantiies cheaply
pair of tweezers (not needed but recomended for repairs/adjustments)

Step 3: Attach Trigger

Now this is were it gets a little tricky. What you are pretty much doing is puting the metal back on one on the other side. Most clothespins on the metal part have a short part and long part, make sure that the short part is on the flat or outside and the long on the bumbed or inside of the clothes pin. Once again it is easier to slide it on but to kind of open it. The spring like part must be going towards the the pointed end and the long part wont be in a slot.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

The last, simplest, and most important in making this shoot is the top or cocking mechanism
First place the other close pin as shown
Second put ruber band on and loop it once or twice so it holds it in place but is not extremely tight
just too easy...

Step 7: Repairs and Adjustments

As being a "cheap" gun, it need few and easy repairs/adjustments. One is if the shooting part of the metal is crooked just a little it may make the gun shoot side ways. The easiest way to fix it is to take tweezers and bend it till it is straight. The other one is were what holds the shooting part back gets worn, it starts shooting randomly or not holding at all. So simple repeat step 4 a little till it is fixed. Last one that is not shown is that the spring may become weak. So simply replace it, because you cant realy fix it...

We used to build these when I was a kid. We would shot strike anywhere type matches up in the air and watch them light when they hit the sidewalk or pavement. I'd forgotten all about until now. Thanks for the refresher!
