How to make a small DIY LED Projector

Step 2 With the high power led 20W 1000lm

I finaly fit the 20w 1000lm high power led that got today in the post.

Here's the video of the result.. I recommend to use this one because it's more simple to install and the output it's a lot better.

Can i use a 20W halogen with out condenser lens,only fresnel lens

also, halogen is basically incandescent and will be HIGHLY inefficient it will require 80% more power also, infrared and heat radiation may destroy your LCD. you will need a filter to get rid of infared light (heat).

 It will works but the temperature of a 20w halogen bulb is very hot compare with the LED so it will require more powerful fans.

a tip, use another switch for the fans, so the leds don't take damage from being near hot components.

ok now i know how you made your projector so small you put the light, electronics and lens outside of the box. i need to get a box like that or make one because my cornflake box is not strong enough =]

 It's not only that, I had to take a lot of things into consideration. like the distances and the lenses I did use, as if you use a bigger LCD screen like yours, you will need a different main lens.  

The lens you have will not focus the corners and the center of the screen.  I don't think you can even get everything evenly focus with the lens you are using. Am I right?

please  i dont get how u power the led?  can u just wire a 9v to it? or a 12v power charger

hi great projector! i just finnished mine and you can check it out on my instructables page. but i was wondering where you got a heat sink and how can i make my picture bigger without moving the whole projector away from the wall (zoom) do i just move the fresnel lens? thanks

hello i have talked to u in the past on utube and i ended up building a projector out of a ohp and a portable dvd player but i tryed downsizing the huge box and cracked the lcd so i am going to buy a mp4 player and do the same like u did but what i have to say is can i use my ohp lamp instead of led? i dont know much about leds and watts, i also found a led on ebay look.......http://cgi.ebay.com/1PCS-High-power-1W-White-LED-Lamp-Light-70Lm-free-ship_W0QQitemZ180474400239QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2a051ccdef  could i just connect a positive and a negitive to this and make it work or what do i have to do??

i have the same high power led but is flickering and after 10sec the light is less strong. and how did you make the temperature unit?

I would like to ask about the light source.
Can the light source be a halogen lamp, or do I nead a led? what are the pros and cons of them?

And if I nead to buy the led, when can I buy it on the net?

 You can use a halogen lamp but it will be really hot, so you will need to add a good fan to cool it down, also the power consumption is a lot more with the halogen lamp.

To find the led, go to ebay and search "high power led" somewhere in the comments there's a link to ebay.

hi ever one Just wanted to say this looks cool I am trying to make it now. I have just got the 20w 13-15v 1.5A LED on ebay the same as the one in the photo above I found that the leg labled as + positive in the photo was - negative on my led I am now trying to get the parts to make the LED driver YOU WILL NEED TO USE ONE IF YOUR POWER supply puts out more than 1.5A I tryed to use a 12v @ 4.16A the led was very very bright but it almost cocked it. IT was smoking after being on for only 10 seconds on a big copper heat sinck !!!

Who supplied the 20w LED from China? I can only find suppliers with minimum of 50+ orders, just want to try one, thanks seems great idea.

I've seen these on ebay for as low as $10 US. I was considering doing something along this line with a iPod Nano 4g and was actually researching the dimensions of the led.

Whats the blue box? And did you only need 1 20w led? How much was it?

Hi!, that's not a box, is a heatsink from a computer's processor. U need something like that to cool the led off. I only use 1 20W LED and it was around 20 English pounds, (around 35 bucks?).
