Introduction: How to Make Foam Characters

About: My name is Melissa and I'm 18 years old. I joined this site for a class but it is very interesting and I may continue to use it once this class is over.

This instructable teaches you how to make foam characters. I made these characters for a school project that I'm doing and they are based off of video games.

Step 1: Materials

 Things you'll need:

-Colored craft foam (if possible, get the foam with the sticky back)
-Scissors
-Hole punch
-Pencil
-2-sided tape (if you can't get sticky back foam)

Step 2: Draw Out Your Plan

First you should decide what you want your character to look like. The one that i have in the picture is based off of Mario. I looked up a picture of Mario and then took the basics of his character and made them flat and square. I also drew out all the pieces separately (for the arms) and labeled what color would go where.

Step 3: Make Templates

Since I was making multiple characters with the same general shape, I decided I should make templates. First I drew out what the shape would look like then I cut it out. The original templates were just paper but I found that the paper was too think so I made a template out of foam.

Step 4: Cut Our Your Shapes.

This next step is very basic. Just cut out your shapes. Make sure you follow your template for best results. This is also the place where the hole punch could come in. I used the hole punch to make the buttons and hands.

Step 5: The Final Touches

This is the step where everything gets put together. You just need to stick pieces where they belong.
