Introduction: How to Make Funny Egg Faces

About: I am a primary school teacher first and foremost, but love to bake, eat, dance and go for walks. I have recently started a vlog with my teacher friend about these things and it has been a lot of fun so far. I …

It is nearly time for us to go back to school here in the UK and as I am a primary school teacher, it has been on my mind that the holidays are coming to an end. I wanted to do something creative and after some searching online, I came up with the idea of making a 'class photo' by drawing funny faces on eggs. This is certainly not what my class looked like in their photo, but I have definitely seen some of these faces on the children this year! This is something I didn't even know I could do until I tried. It really is so easy and you can get really creative with it. It would be a great rainy day activity and you could make it into your own competition - who can make the funniest egg face?

Step 1: You Will Need

You will need: eggs, a saucepan, sharpie pens (or any permanent pens/markers) and a tea towel or kitchen roll (optional).

Step 2: What to Do

Fill a saucepan with cold water. Gently place as many eggs as you want into the pan and turn on the heat. Boil for approximately 10 minutes. Take the pan off the heat, then add some cold water to help the eggs cool down. When the eggs are completely cool, place them gently on some kitchen roll or a tea towel, to help them dry completely. When the eggs are cool and dry they are ready to draw on.

Step 3: What to Do

Once the eggs are cool and dry, start to draw on your egg. I held the egg with the pointed end upwards. Don't be scared of breaking it, the egg is hard-boiled and is pretty sturdy. If you are doing a face, I would recommend starting with the eyes. It gives you a good sense of where everything else will go. If you are using yellow for hair, it looks really effective to outline with black to make it stand out. For tips on drawing cartoon faces, have a look online, there is so much there to help you and give you inspiration.

Step 4: Enjoy

This really is it. If you want to create a scene in a box, like I did, just keep going until you have finished all the faces. Enjoy it!
