Introduction: How to Make Hair Bows

About: I love to sew, as I'm sure you can see from my ibles ;) I also love lawn flamingos, going to the beach, dinosaurs, and doing random stuff.

In this instructable I will show you how to make five different hair bows. They are quite easy to make and look pretty nice. This is my entry in the Burning Questions Round 4. Have fun making these hair bows!

Step 1: What You Need

You will need:
  • A hair clip like the ones in the picture
  • A hot glue gun
  • Ribbon (In this instructable I used two different types)
  • Scissors
  • Felt or some other kind of cloth of your choosing
  • Tulle (also called netting) of any color
  • Duct tape (yes, duct tape!)
  • Some sort of ploy-fiberfill (not shown)

Step 2: Thin Ribbon Hair Bow

For this one you will need some thin ribbon and scissors. And nothing else but your hands.

Cut a piece of ribbon roughly 4 inches long. Then fold it in half to find the center. Now fold the ends into the center as shown in the 3rd and 4th pictures. Have it so that a little bit sticks off the edge like in the 5th picture.

Next, cut a long piece of ribbon and tie it around the middle of the not-quite-a-bow piece of ribbon. Once you tie it it is a nice hair bow!

We cant put a clip on it because it's so small. So tie it in your hair with the long piece of ribbon you tied in the middle of it.

Step 3: Thick Ribbon Hair Bow

For this one you will need some thicker ribbon, hot glue, and a hair clip.

Cut roughly 10 inches of your ribbon and make a bow shape like in the thin ribbon bow. But instead of just tieing it you will need to hot glue it where the ribbons cross. Then after you hot glue it, tie another piece of ribbon around the middle.

Not take the hair clip and glue it onto the bow!

There you have it! Another hair bow!

Step 4: Duct Tape Bow!

Now you will find out why we need duct tape. To make a duct tape bow of course!

Cut a strip of tape about 6 inches long and fold it in half to make a little sheet of it like in picture 2.

Now hold it in the middle and kind of scrunch it together so it looks like a bow. Cut another piece and wrap it around the middle so it keeps its shape. Glue it to the hair clip and you have a duct tape hair bow!

Step 5: Tulle Bow

You'll need some tulle and a hair clip. Hot glue would also help quite a bit.

Cut two rectangular-ish pieces of tulle. Lay one on top of the other and bunch it up in the middle. Now tie with another strip of tulle and glue it to the hair clip. This one is probably the quickest one to make!! :P It took longer to upload the pictures than it did to type this...

Step 6: Puffy Bow

For this one, which I think is one of the awesomest hair bows (Besides the duct tape one), you will need felt, the hot glue gun, the fiberfill stuff, some ribbon, and the hair clip.

Cut out apiece of felt so that when you fold it im half it is the size you want your bow to be. Now glue 2 sides shut so it's like a little pocket. Put the stuffing in and glue it shut.

Take the ribbon and glue it on the back of the boww. Bring it around front and make sure the middle squishes and glue the other end of the ribbon on the back of the bow. Cut off the excess and glue on the hair clip! And now you're done!

Step 7: The End

I hope you liked my instructable and had fun making some bows :)

Here are some pictures of the ones I made in my hair. I put them in the back of my hair because that way it was easier to take pictures of (my friend took them)

If you have any questions just ask, I'll (probably) be able to help :)
