Introduction: How to Make Rose Clay Flower

Please visit my website at The Flower Craft for more beautiful clay flowers and instructions.

Hi everyone, today I would like to share with you the tutorial how to make a rose from soft clay. You can watch the full video tutorial at the end of this post. I'll give you the explanation of all the steps as follow:

In terms of material, you'll need:

- Soft clay white and red colour (Clay by Deco or Hearty clay or Modena soft clay). If you are interested in buying these type of clay, please let me know.

- Rose petal cutter (medium and large)

- Rose petal veiner (large size)

- Craft glue

- A small foam ball (size 2 - 2.5cm)

- Rolling pin

- A small tray or egg tray to form the curve of petals

- A green stem

Shall we start?

Step 1: First we need to mix colour to create pink colour. I used a rounded white clay ball with the size of 2.5 cm mix with a tiny red ball (size 0.3 cm). You need to knead the clays until all the colours blended together

Step 2: Use your rolling pin to flatten the clay. You should roll until the clay become very thin (about 1mm)

Step 3: Use the medium rose petal cutter to cut out all the petals (you will need about 15 petals) then use the petal veiner to create real texture for those petals. After that, place the petals to an egg tray/small tray to form the curve of petals.

Step 4: Now you can start to assemble all the small petals to make the rose bud. Remember you should do this step right after step 3 and do not need to wait for the clay to dry. Some people wait for the clay to dry because they use Thai clay and will have to use glue to stick the petals. If you use the petals straight after step 3, the petals will stick by themselves as it is the nature of soft clay.

Step 5: After that, you repeat step 1 to 3 for the large size rose petals. One thing you need to remember is normally the outside petals have lighter colour compare to the ones inside so DO mix more white clay to the leftover clay from step 3 to bring more gradian to the petals.

Step 6: Continue to assemble all big petals to complete your rose. Here you go, it's simple, isn't it? In this video tutorial, you'll learn how to make a rose clay flower. After practicing for a while, I'll give you instruction how to make rose leaves and stem.

I hope you enjoy this video and please give me feedback what kind of flowers you want to make so that I'll prepare to give you instruction for the next video.
