Introduction: How to Make Vampire Bat Decorations

About: I'm a former bicycle industry designer turned professional jeweler. I like working with my hands and am happiest when I'm in the shop building my creations. If you need help with your project just let me know!

I made several of these bats to hang from our trees. They're really easy to make.

Step 1: Materials

You'll need two different sized styrofoam balls, black tissue paper, five minute epoxy, white glue, some white paint, some wire, a couple of black foamie sheets and an X-Acto knife.

Step 2: Make the Body

Construct the body by inserting a bit of wire into the large styrofoam ball, press the small ball onto the wire and glue the two balls together with the epoxy.

Step 3: Make the Wings and Ears

Cut out the wings form the foamie sheet to look like the pattern. Cut some small triangles from foamie sheet for the ears.

Step 4: Cover the Body

Cover the body with the tissue paper. This is done by tearing the paper into thin strips and appyling it to the body with white glue- kind of like paper mache. When the body is dry cut slots in the body ( shown with dotted lines) for the ears and wings using an X-Acto knife.

Step 5: Finishing

Glue the wings and ears on by inserting them into the slots. Paint on the eyes and fangs. Then make a hook by bending a bit of wire and inserting it through the body and bending a right angle on the end of the wire so it doesn't pull through. Glue the bent end of the wire to the body with epoxy. That's it!
