Well maybe. Get happy selling stuff to people that you know will make them smile and maybe just maybe will pay the bills and have a huge amount of fun doing it.

Thx for your nice comments. Well I encouraged my son do a sketches and to come up with the criteria and the list of animals etc, but I was a designer for 10 years so I had a head start with the design and layout. The key I have found (and it's true with all my stuff on dadcando ) is that it is hard to get the right balance between instructing my children by showing them how to do things and letting them make mistakes and experiment by actually doing it themselves but accepting a lesser outcome. It's a fine line to walk because I want them to see what's possible and end up with a result of which they feel really proud and ALSO for which they feel they had a significant amount of input. In cases like this, embodying their ideas pulls off the trick neatly. In this case my son suggested and designed icons for each of the attributes. I was going to re-draw them, but with the factoid we couldn't fit them in so I drew up an icon for the carnivore / herbivore bit at the top of the card and did a trade on that so we used his idea but in a different way that fitted better with the cards.

BTW the picture of William and me taking a picture of the gecko poo was taken by my eldest son and was used as a press shot, so he was proud of that even though he had had no real involvement with the rest of the project.

As for the program, I used Macromedia Freehand (similar to Adobe Illustrator) although there are other free versions available for the line work and Adobe Photoshop for the bitmap work, which in this case was mostly all of it.
