That site is moving/moved, would you know where I could find it now?
carlos7828 says: Oct 18, 2012. 1:30 PM
i know this post is from three years ago but i was interested in knowing if you can built me a red deadmau5 exactly like the one above and of course i will pay you maybe the price of all the material which to my estimate is about 50-60 dollars or we can come to an agreement interested?? oh but you have to respond as soon as possible because i need it by halloween.
Cherrysquid says: Oct 18, 2012. 9:35 PM
50-60 would not be enough. I barely went under 70 and I got my hamster ball 40% off, didnt buy any stick on felt, and found a deal on the wood plates. The effort involved is also a big deal. All the tools and such. If it was me making one to sell I'd probably ask for around 125$.
laxgrl168 says: Oct 16, 2012. 8:50 PM
Is it 100% necessary to include the hard hat?
Would it still be wearable without a hard hat or helmet inside?
Cherrysquid says: Oct 15, 2012. 9:10 PM
Well, I made one over the weekend and I couldn't be more satisfied. I got all my parts for about 60$. The felting was by far the most difficult part. I just wrapped it around the front like you're covering the whole sphere, then cut it in the middle of the mouth and fold over the lips. The back I would then cut with an exacto knife right before unavoidable folds started folding. I then glued on felt on the back side and exacto knifed it right along the ridge. The lines are hardly noticeable. Careful if you're tall, I'm 6'3" and with the head on including the ears I clear 7' easy. Picture below. I might add my process pictures if asked for.

Does anybody have any good tricks for covering the head with the material? I cant figure out how to get it my felt all the way around without crinkling and it is all even... Are there any particular shapes that I could cut out to make it smooth?
jtrujillo3 says: Oct 2, 2012. 5:11 PM
How big is it the hole thing
marty205 says: Oct 1, 2012. 2:56 PM
Could you tell about how big should the mouth be????
aalfano1 says: Jul 17, 2011. 6:35 PM
Does anyone know about how much money it will cost to get all the suplies
SWAGGY246 says: Sep 26, 2012. 6:41 PM
about $270
cropper3 says: Sep 9, 2011. 9:20 AM
at least $75 if not more - if you use specialty fabrics that could cost as much as $15 per yard. I do not use the felt circles or the stick on fabric, I spend more for that step of making the mau5 head.
jdwebster1000 says: Jul 19, 2011. 11:54 AM
about 50 or 60 bucks
bdoggy45 says: Sep 11, 2012. 7:45 PM
What was thefinal cost of material plus dremle cuz I want to make it but SUPER LOW! on funds
Also if I do make it I'll use white acrylic balls for eyes and put in LEDS :)
onotix says: Oct 11, 2010. 2:38 PM
does any one know where you can get acrylic balls or half spheres?
Intrica says: Oct 28, 2010. 6:38 AM
Superior Lighting is a great source for both the large 14" globes and the 6" acrylic globes. I have also purchased the acrylic globes from Home Depot, but really love the Home Depot polycarbonate globes - they are very thin, strong, exceptionally shiny, and consistent in thickness throughout the globe (some polycarbonate globes from other suppliers are very thick on one end and extremely thin on other area)
ReDFoxx_14 says: Aug 15, 2012. 12:50 PM
the only problem with that site is that if your on a budget, you cant afford much
Ardian Djombalic says: Oct 29, 2010. 3:38 PM
Did you use a hampster ball as means for the head or did you use the acrylic globe?
Rob305 says: Oct 29, 2010. 5:26 AM
And if you don't mind... what did you cover the metal mesh with?
Intrica says: Oct 29, 2010. 6:09 AM
Rob, I covered the metal mesh on this one with girl's lycra tights from Target. $3.99/pr and it's enough to cover 4 mesh panels.

You can also use sheer chiffon fabric and it works very well.

Rob305 says: Oct 29, 2010. 4:54 AM
Hey Intrica... Nice Deadmau5 head.. Would you be able to post a picture of a 6'' acrylic globe and a picture of the polycarbonate globe because everywhere I ask they say they don't have, and that includes Home Depot.
Intrica says: Oct 29, 2010. 6:13 AM
Rob, here is the link to the acrylic globes at Home Depot
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xg2/R-100671525/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

I don't know why the polycarbonate version is not listed online, but they carry more of that one at my local store than they do of the acrylic. Next time I stop by there I will take a pic of the box and maybe that will have info on it that will help them locate the item for you.

I see your name is Rob305 - if you are in the Miami area as your name suggests, the Home Depot I get the polycarbonate globes at is the one on Stirling Rd.

Hope this helps!
Rob305 says: Oct 29, 2010. 8:03 AM
LoL well i did live in Miami, but currently I am in Canada. =( and ty for the help.

I dunno about acrylic, but styrofoam is available at craft stores like Michaels. They might also have acrylic or similar. Give them a shot.
samtherebel says: Oct 16, 2010. 3:32 PM
petco, hamster balls called clear run about ball, mega
ReDFoxx_14 says: Aug 15, 2012. 12:47 PM
instead of having all these seams on the helmet you can take the ball apart by unscrewing the screws at the half of the ball and tuck it in the seams then screw it back on.
mau5fan123 says: Mar 10, 2012. 9:18 AM
Are you sure a 13" is big enough? Because for me it's kinda small...

uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh
JellyyFishh says: Mar 29, 2012. 10:56 PM
real dimensions are 14"
Nxtfari says: Mar 25, 2012. 6:33 PM
Maybe I'm missing something huge, but why is it necessary to add the hamster ball finger slots into the hardhat?
JellyyFishh says: Mar 29, 2012. 10:56 PM
Helps it glue to the top of the mau5head. The normal top of hard hat is badly shaped
pat.reyes98 says: Dec 15, 2011. 8:27 AM
Does Anyone know where to get the Hamster Ball in the Phlippines?
Nxtfari says: Mar 25, 2012. 6:30 PM
try a pet store.
thomasthetankengine says: Feb 13, 2012. 3:29 PM
http://www.housemusicessentials.com/mau5head-details-have-been-revealed/

This has the correct dimensions if you need to be official. They are from Mr. Mau5 himself :) 4.5" balls for eyes, 13" diameter for ears, 14" diameter for main head shell, eyes 5" apart, ears 3" apart, eyes 2" above mouth, mouth 50 degrees and goes around exactly half the circumference, ears 15 degrees tilted back, mouth 1/4 indentation.

:) nice 'ible. I will be making a silver and gold chrome-ish one for the North Coast Music Festival over the summer.
