How to make your own Deadmau5 Mau5head!

Step 3Eyes and ears part 1

Eyes and ears part 1
Take your compass and make 12" circles on your birch baltic wood. Take your Dremel and cut out them out. Sand the edges to avoid splinters. These will be your ears. Now take your stick on felt and start applying it on the ears. Take your hobby knife and cut off the excess felt. An ear uses up 3 sheets of felt. Make sure you cut on a cutting board so you don't ruin any surfaces. Now take a piece of sandpaper and start concaving the insides of eyes until it sits flush on the surface of the ball. Do this process outside because it gets really messy.

Beleive it or not, If you're lucky enough to find large thick felt circles at your local craft store, they work a lot better than wood plates, mostly because its easier to go through doors and whatnot lol. Unfortunately, I only obtained circles with happy face cutouts in them... but I'll see how everything works out!

For the ears, I used lids from 10gal buckets - available at hardware stores. If you're using the hamster ball, just cut a couple of notches in the rim of the ball about 3" apart and cut off a bit of the lip, then force the 3" segment through one of the slots. You can slide it up and down to position it correctly. They bend without breaking, but are very stiff and hold themselves up very well.

question on this step. is there an easier way to make it so you can not see the seams? I mean when i test it out i can see where the pieces of the stick on felt meet, so i was wondering how you fix that problem.

Not really, in fact if you look at his proffesionally made heads, you will see a seam around the back of the head where they have to stich it. No way around that. You have to pull super tight to get only one stich around the back at that. I did mine in 4 quarters since I am attaching el glow wire around the outside of the mask you wont see the seam going vertical.
