How to manage iPhone/iPod without iTunes?

There are certain reasons as to why you would prefer not to use iTunes to manage your iDevice.
I personally prefer simpler, lighter and less restrictive programs to use with my iPhone. Another major reason for me to choose third-party software is the risk of iTunes deleting songs on my device which I added independently from iTunes.
