Introduction: How to Play N - a Few Tricks
This Instructable is intended to teach a few tricks about how to play the addicting game called N. These pointers should help make your gameplay easier. Alright, onward we go! You can scroll through the notes on the image for an intro to the main menu.
Step 1: Download It!
First you have to download the game. It can be found here. You may notice how fast it downloads. N is a tiny file. It's best just to put it in your desktop. Now look at your desktop, and you'll see a ZIP file called n_v1pc. Create folder and name something you'll remember, like N, and dump n_v1pc into it. Now click on the folder and extract everything. Get this right. You need to right click and hit "Extract All." Now, whenever you want to play it, you have to open that folder and n_v14 (it has a gray icon), which shows up after extraction. Now you're ready to play.
Step 2: Tip 1 - Fall Better
"Fall better." I don't know where I came up with that, but that's what this tip is about. If you are falling down a cliff in N, you don't have to slide the whole way. If there is a slanted tile at the bottom, You need not slide at all, because the slant slows you enough. Even if there isn't a slant, you still don't have to slide the whole way. Just wait until the last second and hit the arrow in the direction of the wall you are falling past. Basically, only slide at the last moment. This way, everything gets a ton faster.
Step 3: Tip 2 - Learn to Wallclimb
This is so useful, yet I still meet people who don't know how to wall climb. Wallclimbing is where you climb up a wall (surprise, surprise). All you have to do is hold in the direction of the wall and jump. Keep pressing the jump key. The trick is getting the right rhythm. It takes practice, but once you get it, it feels easy. And believe me, it's necessary.
Step 4: Tip 3 - Walljump: Yeah, It's Faster.
Walljumping: the faster wallclimb. However, It only works if you have to parallel walls (like in the picture). It's also easier. If the gap between the walls is less than 4 squares or so, you can walljump. All you gotta do is get yourself sliding in that gap and hit the jump key. You will jump towards the opposite wall. The second you hit it, it jump again. Continue your way up. Using right and left in sync with your movement speeds it up.
Step 5: Tip 4 - Let Them Go
This is just a way I like to dodge chase drones and floor guards. When they're coming at you really fast, wait until they get about 5 squares from you and then jump towards them so that you fly over them in the direction they're not going. This way, they just whizz right past.
Step 6: One Last Thing
One last thing: you've probably seen people in edit mode making levels, and you want to do that to. Well, it's easy. Go to that main menu and hit \, |, `, or ~ (the debug key). I takes to the screen below. Than hit j or h. Than hit t. It takes you to edit mode, which is pretty self explanatory. Once you've made your level in edit mode, press Home, then Page Down, then Page Up. Wait for it to load, than press that debug key. Wait again and than hit p to play. I fit doesn't work, it's because you need to have caps lock on. When you die or beat your level, hit debug. To play again, hit r than p. To edit, hit t. To edit you also can press r than e. Whew.
Alright, that's all. Feel free to comment and rate. I'm still learning how to design these, so all feed back is good.
Oh, and thanks to metanet for a few clarifications (see comments).
