This Instructable is intended to teach a few tricks about how to play the addicting game called N. These pointers should help make your gameplay easier. Alright, onward we go! You can scroll through the notes on the image for an intro to the main menu.

Step 1: Download It!

First you have to download the game. It can be found here. You may notice how fast it downloads. N is a tiny file. It's best just to put it in your desktop. Now look at your desktop, and you'll see a ZIP file called n_v1pc. Create folder and name something you'll remember, like N, and dump n_v1pc into it. Now click on the folder and extract everything. Get this right. You need to right click and hit "Extract All." Now, whenever you want to play it, you have to open that folder and n_v14 (it has a gray icon), which shows up after extraction. Now you're ready to play.

Step 2: Tip 1 - Fall Better

"Fall better." I don't know where I came up with that, but that's what this tip is about. If you are falling down a cliff in N, you don't have to slide the whole way. If there is a slanted tile at the bottom, You need not slide at all, because the slant slows you enough. Even if there isn't a slant, you still don't have to slide the whole way. Just wait until the last second and hit the arrow in the direction of the wall you are falling past. Basically, only slide at the last moment. This way, everything gets a ton faster.

Step 3: Tip 2 - Learn to Wallclimb

This is so useful, yet I still meet people who don't know how to wall climb. Wallclimbing is where you climb up a wall (surprise, surprise). All you have to do is hold in the direction of the wall and jump. Keep pressing the jump key. The trick is getting the right rhythm. It takes practice, but once you get it, it feels easy. And believe me, it's necessary.

Step 4: Tip 3 - Walljump: Yeah, It's Faster.

Walljumping: the faster wallclimb. However, It only works if you have to parallel walls (like in the picture). It's also easier. If the gap between the walls is less than 4 squares or so, you can walljump. All you gotta do is get yourself sliding in that gap and hit the jump key. You will jump towards the opposite wall. The second you hit it, it jump again. Continue your way up. Using right and left in sync with your movement speeds it up.

Step 5: Tip 4 - Let Them Go

This is just a way I like to dodge chase drones and floor guards. When they're coming at you really fast, wait until they get about 5 squares from you and then jump towards them so that you fly over them in the direction they're not going. This way, they just whizz right past.

Step 6: One Last Thing

One last thing: you've probably seen people in edit mode making levels, and you want to do that to. Well, it's easy. Go to that main menu and hit \, |, `, or ~ (the debug key). I takes to the screen below. Than hit j or h. Than hit t. It takes you to edit mode, which is pretty self explanatory. Once you've made your level in edit mode, press Home, then Page Down, then Page Up. Wait for it to load, than press that debug key. Wait again and than hit p to play. I fit doesn't work, it's because you need to have caps lock on. When you die or beat your level, hit debug. To play again, hit r than p. To edit, hit t. To edit you also can press r than e. Whew.

Alright, that's all. Feel free to comment and rate. I'm still learning how to design these, so all feed back is good.

Oh, and thanks to metanet for a few clarifications (see comments).
another thew tips:if your stuck in a position where you cant move for whatever reason, pressing k will instantly kill you and restart the level, if you keep losing due to time constraints, then you can turn off the timer by entering practice mode in the configure menu, this will also allow you to skip levels overly difficul<br>
I simply can't beat that level. It seems impossible.
wich level?
Phew... I wrote the previous comment about a year and a half ago... dunno, sorry, lol.<br />
Oh, ok. That's fine- I probably should have checked the date before I&nbsp;said anything.
I think I might have done it once or twice, but you're right, it's hard.
joehadoc: Try downloading directX from microsoft. Note that I use vista, and it works. Also get the latest flashplayer and java updates. After all that, try and play again. And GarillazMiko, you should try it. It's FUN!!! Note to all that userlevels do not work on their n game, you HAVE to have userlevels.txt saved in the same folder or place as the main icon.
Yeah, I just figured this out. It was driving me crazy!!!
your link goes to the wrong place. This is where you should go: <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.metanetsoftware.com/">http://www.metanetsoftware.com/</a><br/>
sorry this is old fixed it
Never heard of this game before.
Really, you should try it. Best 2D game ever!
is there a site where you can play it?
Yes. Type ngame into google and click on the link with the address of madgravityradio in it.
Yes: <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.addictinggames.com/ngame.html">Here.</a><br/>But the full version has more levels, is more customizable, and my favorite: userlevels. I would download it unless, say, I was not allowed to do it. So yah, you can play it online, but the downloadeable one is better.<br/>
Actually, it's not the "full version." The download one is just newer and to accommodate it, instead of taking up server space with extra levels, they allow a download option.
The online version of n game is on the servers of, say, www.addictinggames.com, not metanet software. The online one is actually a version specifically meant to be played online, and some of the features of the download version are taken out.
No. The online version, which is on many servers, including addicting games and many websites, is version 1.1. The download version we have is version 1.4.1.
so where can I find a '1.4.1' Ngame?
From the link I provided in the 'ible.
oops, forgot.
<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/downloads.html">here.</a><br/>Just click on the link in the downloads section that is right for you operating system.<br/>
Well, im sorry to bring it up, but the addicting games version is 1.2 I admit that you are right about it not being specifically an online version, but nowadays it is the only version to be found online (Not downloaded online.) Now i think it is a good idea to have both of us STOP ARGUING! I mean, what is it that makes want to find something wrong in everything that the other person says.
Sorry, I wasn't sure if it was 1.1 or 1.2. Ok, we're done now.
here is PROOF!
yea it's actually called N-ninja
Don't worry, he was just commenting. In case you didn't notice, he comments on pretty much every 'ible, and joins every group.
Yeah, but I'd rather slide.
Metanet Software here, the creators of N -- and by the way, it's just called &quot;N&quot;, not N game or N ninja or anything else :) -- the version available online at addictinggames and elsewhere is not official. The only official version is 1.4, which can be downloaded from the website:<br/> <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.thewayoftheninja.org/n_downloads.html">http://www.thewayoftheninja.org/n_downloads.html</a><br/><br/>But we're making an official swf version soon with a bunch of new goodies.<br/><br/>If you have questions, come and join the forums:<br/><a rel="nofollow" href="http://metanet.forumer.com">http://metanet.forumer.com</a><br/><br/>Thanks for playing N!<br/>
Thanks for that clarification, it was much needed. Oh, and I'll change the names to just "N."
No problem, happy to help! :) Thanks for making this Instructable -- you've got some really great tips here!
ya too bad every time i play it it freezes right before the game makes a sound and it takes away alll the fun
thats too bad. try reinstalling?
even if i play it online in my browser it does that... it prolly has somthing to do with vista like all the other games
Maybe you dont have the latest Java/DirectX/Flash stuff.<br/>Try downloading <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">this</a>.<br/>If that doesnt work, go to the DirectX (Microsoft) and Java pages and update.<br/>I use vista and it works fine. If all fails, email the author <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/downloads.html">Here</a>. I have done so in the past and he replied quickly.<br/>
