now before you buy a guitar you need have a demo done at the store.
and here is some advice. NEVER BUY A V GUITAR FOR YOU FIRST GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
their looks are cool but they are horrible to play! (sorry danny) now for your first guitar buy a acoustic but if you want a electric you should get a strat. they have a thicker neck so it will be harder to play but you will get used to it. But if you if you want a "thinner" neck get an ibanez ( I-ben-ez) they have a flater neck.

a capo is a good thing to have

however may i point out the fact that the fret board on acoustics are wider, thus it is easier for begginers to play without damping open stings...
Jan 2, 2010. 1:28 PMducttaped says:
why do you do pick scraping? i thought doing that to the strings was bad for them?

you spelled fourth and there wrong btw

NOTE TO THE AUDIENCE: if you're seriously interested in using power chords even slightly often, you may want to retune your guitar to a drop D (tune your low E down to a D) or a drop C(not really a drop, but tune every string down one, then tune your E (now a D) down to a C) I play in drop D and C quite a bit, as they makes all of the power chords grouped together so that you don't have to split your fingers...
Jun 9, 2009. 6:29 PMOzzyCoop says:
Maybe, but in my opinion drop D tuning is just a comfort zone that too many people get stuck in. 7 out of 10 people who play guitar in drop tuning are looking for an easy short cut to becoming like all their monotone, talentless Disturbed like heros. Go ahead and use drop tuning but just because it sounds kind of cool, and you sound like these contemporary rock bands, and it makes playing guitar easier, dont let your creativity suffer. Spread your fingers out and dont fall into a comfort zone. Drop D has a time and a place. Just my opinion.

Umm... power chords are used in ALL types of music, from jazz to pop to Death Metal. You can do power chords all you want on an acoustic guitar. Also, you can play them from the A string too. You should seriously consider re-writing step 5. Actually, no offense, but you should re-write the entire Instructable. It isn't phrased very well at all... And don't try the "well, I'm 13" (or whatever age) thing either. I'm 14 and wrote this just fine.

yeah, useing styles from other genres, is how oyu make interesting music... its called, THINKING OUT OF THE BOX. lol.
Jun 1, 2009. 4:43 PMDamage, Inc. says:
I don't quite understand what you're pointing out by saying that.... what I meant by my post was that many of his statements about power chords (among other things) were wrong.

This whole instructable is terrible... It doesn't really explain how to play the guitar! Where do I put my fingers? How do I hit the strings? How do I tune the guitar? Where do I plug into the amp? And, there are many mistakes! Who says you can't play power chords on an acoustic? Fifth chords can still include the third sting. You can play a power chord starting on any string.

look at the nut, it's not in place.

Ahh... Some how-to-play-guitar Instructables are mediocre, but this one could really use some work! Poor grammar is definitely your most obvious fault, and to a lesser extent the organization of the article. -Simply explaining in words with or without pictures the fingering of the chords would likely be more effective, besides easier to comprehend; maybe more conventional tabs would be better than the chord charts you used. -How does tuning affect chord fingerings? The chord would just be a half step up or down (whatever you're tuned to). -Power chords can used on any string, provided that there is at least a fifth, and usually the octave note for a full "E5" chord, for example. The 5 is for the fifth after the base note of the chord. Other than all that, though I've left some things out, this Instructable does sum up and line out the basics of playing the electric twanger. I'd like to point some things out, though: It ain't "Ac/DC." This merely shows that you wrote this in a hurry/didn't pay attention/CARE to read over what you typed. AC/DC ain't metal; they're a Rock 'n' Roll band, and if anyone doesn't believe me, then they should just listen to a couple of their songs (besides the ones whose titles include the words "Rock 'n' Roll," and the like), especially songs from the Bon Scott era. "Ain't" ain't a word. ...This is all coming from a fourteen-year-old middle school percussionist (and section leader, I might add), so don't think think of me as the foremost guitarist on all of cyberspace. Very interesting Instructable! Reform it a little and it could probably beat all the other ones on the subject. Lastly, I must say that Angus is da best!!!!
