Oh yeah, if you want to, you can be recruited into my clan. We have a base, I'll show you where it is when you join the clan. I'll be there at some time in the GMT day.

Step 1: Basic Controls

The basic controls are:

Click on the screen or the map to say where you want to go. Clicking on items in your inventory makes you eat them, wield them, wear them, or use them, maybe with something else, depending on what the item is. eg.
Use cooked meat to eat it.
Click on armour or weapons to wield or wear them.
click on dough and click on an oven to bake bread
click a bar of metal on an anvil to smith it.

Camera controls:

up moves camera in an arc up over your character
down moves the camera down in an arc around your character
left/right move the camera sideways around your character.

Typing in: usually public chat. click on a friend in your list's name to send a private message, or if you are in clan chat, start each sentence with a / to send it to everyone in the clan.

Step 2: Money Making!

Fighting is not the only important thing in runescape. You have to buy your armour, weapons, clothes, robes etc. but with what? The economy would crash in minutes without it. I know! Money! Also known as gp, which stands for gold points, K when referring to ammounts in the thousands, mil when refering to millions, and bil in billions. but this is rare, as the highest ammount of money you can hold is around 2 billion.
Anyway, selling stuff is good, getting money from enemies works, whenever someone wants to trade with you, do it cos they might have something good, and some quests get you money. Some players even ask you to guide them to places for money. whenever someone does this, oblige.if anyone owes you money, add them as a friend to get your worth. Whenever you go to the wild, put stuff in the bank in case you lose it. Another way to make quick easy money if you are under lvl 30, id to go to the Lumbredge cow feild. There you can kill lvl 2 cows and collect their cow hides. Then take the cow hide to the Grand Exchange and sell them there for 100gp. Another way is to go to the wilderness (dont worry you cant get attacked by other people). Go north and around the yellow lava. You know you're there when you see lvl 28 hill giants. Kill a bunch of them and you can get some goodies (Big bone (sells for 346gp) lumpurt roots, daggars and som other stuff).

Step 3: Combat: Tactics for Fighting

Melee
Firstly, you are going to want to get the best sword you can for your level: scimitars are generally better. Also get the best armour you can, because you want to minimalize your chances of being hit: get platebody rather than chain. I favour kiteshields to squareshields, but take your pick. Try to get your stuff from the Grand Exchange North of Varrock. Go to the wilderness and as you advance levels, go deeper in. If you don't want to go to the wilderness, there are goblins and people to fight who are level 2 and chickens, cows, imps and highwaymen in and around Lumbridge, so fight them until you are ready. Note that with the armour you are wearing, you are heavily weighted, so you won't be able to run as fast or as far.

Ranged
For your weapon, get the largest/best bow and best arrows you can. For armour, leather is good, but for solid defence, try a med helm. Shoot people, goblins, imps, cows and chickens to boost your ranged level. If you want, get a crossbow. With the leather, you weigh an ok weight, and should be able to keep running quite far.

Magic
If you want to favour magic, get a staff of some kind, and get runes as soon as possible. For your "armour", get a wizard's hat, wizard's robes and a skirt (yes men, I mean it. It's a shame, but it's true) of the same colour to look good. train up your magic in Lumbridge until you get to level 25, then go into the wilderness with a sword in your inventory just in case. The robes mages wear are quite light, so you should have little trouble running around.

Try to fight things weaker than you. Don't go in over your head, pick on someone your own size etc. Concentrate. If your life meter next to the world map starts flashing, run you arse off back to Lumbridge. Go to the wild if you can, or fight the guards of varrock or other people. Go to a pvp world if you have to!

Step 4: Gain Experience Fast!

If you want to gain experience like lightning, look no further.
If you want to get fighting experience (strength, Attack, Defence, Hit points, Magic, Ranged) get a scimitar, a bow, or a staff and fight! Use the shared exp. option to get those points up fast!
If you want to get other things up, (mining, smelting, crafting, cooking, firemaking, fishing etc.) Do half an hour on each skill: spend time on it!

Step 5: FAQ

Have you got a question? Ask away!

1)I can't buy or sell stuff on the grand exchange! Nothing comes up! What am I doing wrong?

The Exchange doesn't have infinite items: they come from people who are selling their's! Wait a few minutes, maybe hours, maybe days if you're unlucky, and the money or items will come.
