How to properly prepare a hookah.

How to properly prepare a hookah.
This instructable is going to help you to properly prepare a hookah to smoke! This tutorial is a little bit on the long side, but considering all of the steps to make sure you properly put it together, I think it's worth it!

First of all, before you begin preparing your hookah, you need to make sure you have all of the supplies!

1.) Hookah base.
2.) Properly fitting hookah stem.
3.) Downstem.
4.) Ash tray.
5.) Hookah hose. (Be sure to check that there are no holes, snags, anything blocking the hose, etc.)
6.) Clay bowl.
7.) Properly fitting bowl grommet.
8.) Shisha. (We're using Voltage from Social Smoke for this tutorial.)
9.) Tongs. (Never use your hands to pick up a coal, always use hookah tongs [you will typically receive a pair of tongs with your hookah] and always use the tongs to flip and ash your coal.)
10.) A toothpick. (I typically prefer to use a toothpick, but more on that later.)
11.) Coals. (We are using Social Smoke's brand of Japanese charcoal, again, more on that later.)
12.) Tin foil.
13.) A clean preparation surface.
14.) A panda pillow pet. (Not necessary, but good for laughs.)

Step 1Putting your stem together.

Putting your stem together.
First, after making sure your hookah is completely clean, you'll need to put your stem together. This is a simple step, but if not done properly can completely ruin your smoking experience. Take your downstem and screw it into your main hookah stem. Make sure the downstem is tightly screwed all the way in. Whenever you're taking your hookah apart, be sure that the downstem can unscrew from the main stem, otherwise rust and bacteria can build up inside of it.

This is very specific and helpful. Good to know, as most hookahs come with minimal instructions. Thanks for sharing!
