Don't know if I can help.
To connect to the internet, eg web browser. Either use OKIWI, which can't render images or DSOrganize which can (I recommend this).
For anything always go here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?dlcategory=1
For MSN, try Beup, however at the moment, it is not working. See there are lots of programs that can connect to MSN, on PC, Mac, Linux, DS, etc. But the only one that will work always, is Windows Live Messenger, or other official Micro$oft created ones. MSN server IP's change all the time, and BEUP doesn't support DNS, which acquires the IP address automatically: the author writes it out in the program. So unfortunately, BEUP is connecting to the wrong server and it's not working.
Sorry, er if you didn't understand any of that.
Patch it with DLDI, then run it.
However I'd recommend using DSOrganize quite frankly. It's a bit more basic.
It's based on the PS2 rhythm game Amplitude. If you remember him from DSmeet, AirHead helped work on the 4th version and it's actually a pretty big improvement over v3
I'd recommend DSFTP as well. It's a lot easier than taking out the SD card and putting it back in constantly >.>
Also, the M3 Sakura interface is pretty slick. It only works on the M3 Real and equivalent though, so not your R4.
Finally, a good download site is http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/
It's really good about being up-to-date and has all sorts of valuable info/download links.
