The throwing method you use for the shuriken is accurate, but kunai were thrown like a knife, with a gentle "brushing" from the index finger, so that it flew point up until just before impact when it turned to horizontal. Other than that, great job! I love Ziggy. See my 'pigs below.

dude this really wouldn't work in real life i know ive been throwing knives and axes (and even a batarang) since i was little and this would probably completely fail with a real metal kunai or "shuriken"

Wrong. I'm sorry, but I'm guessing you're just a 13-year old Naruto fan (I can see that by the design of your paper kunai) who don't know anything about real ninjas. Naruto's pretty damn cool, and to tell you the truth I'm a pretty hardcore Naruto fan myself, but they are not real ninjas. Try searching for videos or books on shuriken or kunai throwing (I reccomend Suzuki Houzan's videos and books). I'm sorry dude, but this is just wrong. I have real kunais and shurikens and I've gotta say your method doesn't really work with metal knives and throwing stars. Oh, and FYI, those type of shuriken are called shaken or hira shuriken.

Since you throw metal, are you supposed to keep the blade straight or calculate how many times it spins before hitting the target? I want to learn to throw knives and might be getting some soon.
king kolton9 in reply to qwertyman10Sep 5, 2010. 5:56 PM
well the masters calcuate by thinking if i throw it this hard and im this far away it'll spin this many times (it's not hard im 11 and i can do it it just takes practice) before it hits

I don't. Traditional kunais are not really for throwing, they are crude-shaped farming knives, and they are used more like a prying tool or a crowbar. I don't throw kunais, because I know they are really not meant to be used that way. I throw shurikens. My method of throwing it is by bending my knees and throwing it straight from my right arm. I'm not saying that my method is 100% correct, I'm not an expert on shurikenjustsu. Check out scottbaioisdead or HouzanSuzuki's videos on YouTube. Now THAT'S what you call shurikenjutsu experts.

very good! i tried the drill throw with a pencil (only thing i could find laying around) and i could hear it spinning!
skidude28 says: Feb 18, 2009. 7:50 PM
I disagree.

I throw my (real) kunai by:

Holding my right arm vertical, but my elbow down. I go down 45 degrees and let go, with a follow through.

Check out my throwing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbjzecnWyso&feature=channel_page.

DaNerd11 says: Feb 28, 2009. 6:09 AM
If you have some metal working skills you can easily make a sheet metal shuriken. They go right throught card board boxes if you throw them correctly.
lobo_pal says: Feb 16, 2009. 3:27 PM
Good job for your first, but if you're going to use the term kunai, you should also use shuriken. Minor grammar errors, but good.
sk8master (author) in reply to lobo_palFeb 26, 2009. 5:22 PM
might use that in some of my other instructables thanks for pointing out spelling and grammar ill check that out better next time
