How to Turn You Android Phone Into a Mobile Hotspot for Free, No Root!

This is confirmed on LG Ally, 2.2.1 on Verizon. I do not know if this will work on other phones or other carriers. If you guys comment your phone, carrier, and \Android version, I will make a list of working and non-working phones. I am not liable for you breaking TOS (although I don't believe it is in Verizon's and even if it was it is doubtful it will hold up in court.) or phone.

This is my first instructable, so constructive (and some critic) comments are welcome. 

I will make the last slide a list of working and non working carriers and phone models and if applicable, Android version, and if there is any other special criteria such as if it is running sense, rooted, or running a custom rom.

Since I Have to add pictures but it isn't necessary, I will add pictures of the best animals on the planet: Monotremes!

Step 1: Download Widgetsoid 2.x

First, download Widgetsoid 2.x. I didn't make this app, it belongs to it's owners, blah-blah-blah. As of 3/6/2011, it is free but has a donation version. It may also work with other widget managers.

Step 2: Wait for It to Install.....

Step 3: Add the Widget.

When widgetsoid 2.x is done installing, long press home > widgets > Widgetsoid switcher 1x1 (the switcher is mandatory. If you want to add multiple buttons on the same widget, make a bigger one. But in this case I'll leave it at 1x1.)

Step 4: Select What the Widget Switches.

A screen will pop up. A welcome message may appear, just hit ok or whatever. under the network tab, select portable wifi hotspot. Then on the bottom, scroll to the right, hit apply. Don't edit global preferences. Doesn't affect this widget.

Step 5: TURN IT ON!

Just click the widget and it should say 3g mobile hotspot active in the notification bar if it worked. Give it at least 30 seconds.

Step 6: How Do I Connect?

From my experience, the SSID (wifi name) is your phone model (droid x, lg ally, droid incredible, etc.) and the password is your phone number. If you want to edit settings, open the wifi hotspot app in you app drawer, and hit settings. Should be able to figure it out from there.

Step 7: COMMENT IF IT WORKS WITH YOUR PHONE!
