I had a dresser, but needed a bookcase!

I had a dresser, but needed a bookcase

I posted this project on my blog   Freddy & Petunia.

The dresser portion--I removed all the drawers, then cut out the drawer guides/dividers.  I applied spacer strips to build out the raw interior walls, then refitted them with pine boards.  Next, I applied styles to the new left and right opening, for doors, and installed a shelf.
I built door frames, routered a rabbet to secure 3/8" chicken wire.

The hutch--I built a standard box, cut a large window rosette in half and ripped old pine boards to create the styles of the face frame.  Cut the desired, contoured shape for the top rail of the face frame, and secured to box.  Cut and routered a pine board for a top, and secured decorative header.  Routered a rabbet along the back edges to countersink tongue & groove back.

Paint, stain, overglaze--and a little distressing.

My favorite thing is to repurpose old cast-offs, curbies, dilapidated STUFF into something that is beautiful and useful, and now very coveted! Even better is to do it all as green as possible!
