take it out and poke the top with a toothpick until it pops

-though it looks solid the ice gem is actually filled with water,
if the water doesn't drain then poke the top with a toothpick and it will.

I've made these a couple of times now, but mine don't look like that. The surface isn't as smooth and if I drain the water, I lose all the colour. It still looks neat, but I'd like to keep the colour.

Also, if I leave it for longer than 4-5 hours, the outside is clear and the center is solid food colouring, like an egg yolk.

Any advice? Is it the food colouring I'm using? :)

Why take out the water?

because the ouside layer is solid while in the inside water is still liquid
