If You Give a Mouse a Cookie...costume for Two

Want a cute costume for Halloween, but don't want to spend alot of money or time on it? Then here's a costume you might enjoy that works for all ages! We all know Halloween is more fun when you go with friends, so here's two costumes that go together for two people to have fun with- a mouse, and a cookie!

Materials:
brown and pink felt
a hard headband
thin wire
scissors
jean overalls
pink and black facepaint/makeup
hot glue gun
pliers
poster board
brown paper grocery bag
black paper
yarn
glue adhesive spray (works best, but hot glue or Elmer's white glue can be substituted)

Step 1: Mouse Costume- Cutting Out the Ears

Out of the brown felt, cut two circles with a diameter of about four inches each. Make the bottom of each circle flat. The circles do NOT have to be perfectly round or even. Personally, we think it adds character if they're not. Out of the pink felt, cut out two circles of the same shape as the brown, except make them slightly smaller so they fit within the brown circles.

Step 2: Gluing the Felt and Wire

Cut two pieces of wire and bend them so they fit the general shape of the brown felt. Make sure to leave wire on each side of the ear, as shown in the picture. Hot glue the wire in place. Flip the brown ear over and hot glue the pink felt to the brown, aligning the flat edges.

Step 3: Attaching the Ears to the Headband

Take each ear and carefully wrap each end of wire around the headband, using the pliers if needed. Cut and/or bend the sharp wire ends so they won't hurt when worn. You now have your mouse ears!

Step 4: Making the Mouses Tail

We didn't have enough brown felt for the tail, so we used black. Either black or brown will work just fine. Draw and cut out a tail of your preference length and safety pin to the back of overalls. The mouse costume- except for finishing touches- is complete!

Step 5: Cookie Costume- Opening the Paper Bag

Open the bottom of the paper bag, and cut down one side. Crumple the bag up to give it more of a cookie-like-texture, and then lay it flat on the ground.

Step 6: Cutting Out the Cookie

Cut out a circle from the poster board. It doesn't have to be completely circular, seeing as most cookies aren't. Try and use as much of the poster board as you can. (Adjust the size of it depending on whether it will be worn by a child or adult.) Lay the circle over the paper bag. Trace the poster board on the paper bag and cut the bag so it is the same size and shape as the poster board. Depending on the size of your cookie, the bag might not cover the whole poster, as seen in our picture. All you need to do is cut a leftover scrap of the bag to fit over the missing section, and you'll be ready to go! Using the spray adhesive glue, spray the BACK of the paper bag (the side with words on it) and stick it to the poster.

Step 7: Time to Add Chocolate Chips!

Out of the black paper, cut about five- fifteen (depending on the size of your cookie) circles of various sizes. Using the glue adhesive spray, glue the circles to the cookie.

Step 8: Tying the Cookie Around Your Neck

Use the hole puncher to punch two holes at the top of the cookie. Cut a length of yarn to fit around your neck, and tie the ends to each hole. Your cookie's complete!

Step 9: Finishing Touches

For the mouse, use the face paint/makeup to draw whiskers and a nose. We wore black clothes under the cookie, so it wouldn't be distracting from the costume. That sums up the costume, so enjoy!
