Improve your digital camera extremely

in this Instructable I'll show you how you can take your amature digital camera to the extreme using just one item that you'll probably find in every home!
with this simple modification you will be able to take extreme macro images with your simple amature digital camera!

Step 1 Lets start!

All you need is a front lens of a regular binoculars and a masking tape!
- take your old binoculars and take off the front lens!
- attach the lens to the camera lens using a maskingtape!
- this step is complete!

In a pinch you can hold a decent magnifying glass over the camera lens. It is harder to get sharp focus without locking everything into place as isr_Raviv has done though. Once I filled the entire frame with a dime this way. I'd like to know how you would do a telephoto application. This would be great for cams that only have a digital zoom.

There would be nothing stopping you from making a cardboard tube ( couple of thin business cards or something ) made to slide up and down the camera lens, and attaching the binocular lens to it. by sliding it nearer / further you will have focus and zoom adjustment.

Please take note... By language standards, English is difficult to master.

toenailridge, as you are most obviously a perfectionist, I was SHOCKED at your use of the humble "&".
..."&" is an Ampersand !

I think I will post this, so you too feel the embarrassment of a public "outing".

An Ampersand is never to be used as a replacement for the word and".

My original point (if I may... ?)

1) I dislike seeing people crapped on.
Disclaiming it, does not negate the fact.

Not everyone either speaks English as a 1st language.
Using a spell checker mandates the ability to select an alternative word.
Even then it can fall to colour as I would spell it or color as an American would.

2) With regards to being a hypocrite... This sir, was my point.
Crapping on another person after the effort of a post then acting in a contra manner on another level is hypocritical.

Personally, I don't care one iota, if someone uses an ampersand incorrectly.
This was a simple ploy, vehicle to illustrate my point.

I feel it has worked however, it has embroiled both yourself and myself in a this tete de tete.

I was a photojournalist for some time, (in various countries and) have travelled through 44 countries, and speak at least a few words in most languages.
I have spent my live seeking an equitable footing, between interacting humans.
I do not suffer fools nor bullies and vehemently object to anyone dismissing another's validity, if their view, manner or perspective differs from their own.

Perhaps knowing this will explain, if not partially validate, my actions.

So Wolf, with that I will stop.

Yes, insects are scary, but that is a great tip!! I only have one question, will the masking tape harm the flash?? I am planning on purchasing the Olympus 560 sp uz, Thank you!!

You can also put tissue paper over the flash, held on with a rubber band.

If you leave the tape on too long it might be harder to remove the adhesive (depending on what tape you use), but shouldn't actually damage the flash. The worst damage might be if you're not careful when pulling it off and pull things apart.

OMG!!! This Instructable has given me the most result for the effort out of all I've seen so far! Don't have my SLR anymore, and I really miss it because I used to do a lot of macro floral shots. My digicam is decent but I can't afford the macro lens for it. My binoculars didn't have removable lenses...but I remembered a 16x loupe I had. Sure enough one end unscrewed, one lens came out but the other stayed in the housing (tho it was a bit loose). A bit of masking tape and I can finally take macros again after six long years. Before and after pics below, it's a ball of yarn BTW.

For a great place to find several cheap loupes that would probably work just as good - try Harbor Freight (if they're available where you live. HF is also a great source for some incredibly cheap tools, some that are actually worth the money (and if they wear out they're still good to play with!

At harbor freight you can get a box of five different magnification loupes for about five dollars . I got mine to work with coins, but what the heck , I can spare one for my digital. Try harborfreight.com I signed up for the email coupons and get a weekly email.

I should add: camera is a Kodak DX4900. I used all auto settings, regular room light (desk lamp plus the flash). Only prob is I had to put it into video mode to see what the lens was looking at, in order to figure out how close to get. Normally I only can see thru the viewfinder, not the lens itself. But that's ok, it works great.

Now this was a very cool lil' instructable. Very simple idea that pretty much anybody can do. As for the whole spelling issue; I do like proper spelling and such just as much as the next guy; but it's not like this person is posting a doctoral thesis or anything; they were just using common street linguistics to share a rather simple, fun idea for using a potentially cheap camera to get some nice pseudo-telephoto type pics. Anyways... peace love and chicken grease. :-)

This is very instructive and overcomes a short coming of my HP 935 & HP 945 cameras. Who would have thought.
