Industrial looking TV shelf / ledge

Step 2Cutting and drilling

Cutting and drilling
Tools:
Pencil
Tape Measure
Miter Saw
Drill
3/32" counter sink drill bit (for screw pilot hole drilling)
Bar Clamps

Materials:
1"x4"x6' Pine (with or without knots, up to you, or any other wood for that matter)
1 5/8" Drywall Screws
Masking Tape (used to reduce splintering when cutting)

I did this project over a year ago, so I don't have any in construction shots, but it should be fairly self explanatory.

There are two pieces that are not attached that make up this shelf, so you will need two of each thing described here.

- Front lip: This is a small (mine is two inches) with a 45 degree cut

- Ledge: This is the piece that the speaker sets on.  Just make sure it is long enough to meet up with the riser piece.  Mine is 22" or so.  The front edge is cut at a 45 to match up with the lip.  The way I cut mine was to have a 24" piece that I just bevel cut and used the scrap piece flipped around as the lip.  Most of the screws are in this board, two into the front lip, two into the riser, and two into the Joint Strengthener.

- Riser: This is the long piece that props up the shelf in the back.  This will be of a different length for each TV set.  There are two screw going into the Joint Strengthener.

- Joint Strengthener: This is the triangle piece that strengthens the joint between the ledge and the riser.
