Innertube Chain Cover

Cover a chain in inner tube and use it to lock any precious valuables.

Items needed.

-Bicycle inner tube 20" or 16"
-1/4" Metal chain 7' length
-Scissors

Cut the inner tube and slide it over your chain, leave some chain sticking out on both sides so you can lock it.

I doubled my chain because it was made out of a brittle metal so if ever someone had to cut it, he would have to cut through two layers of chain.

Make sure to use used inner tube and if possible try to use a recycled chain.

I use this chain and a lock to secure my bike when i run errands. I lock by front wheel to my frame, it can be easily cut if someone had the time/patience. But i rarely leave my bike unattended in sketchy locations.

I made a similar one for a Virago I had last year. I also used an old inner tube but I selected one that would be faily tight on the chain & inserted ball bearings of various sizes into it between the links to make it harder to cut through. I then recovered the whole thing with a second tube sandwhiching 4mm steel pins between the two layers closing the lot off with rubber cement. Its very heavy & a little hard to get into anything smaller than a saddlebag but I defy anyone to cut through it in a hurry. I found the best way to get the chain through a tight tube is to pass para cord through the tube, tie one end to something solid & the other to the chain, lubicate the tube with washing up liquid & then pull the tube over the chain.

great idea!! now I don't have to spend $50 on those kryptonite locks, just reuse a few old chains inside an inner tube. Nice idea!
