Install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on a PC by epicnoobpwn
Macs are pretty cool right (the OS not the computer itself)? They have lots of cool apps on them and such which make them appealing to many people. However, they are really overpriced! $999 for the baseline model? Thats ridiculous! My laptop is twice as powerful and it cost $740! Apple doesn’t give you what you pay for.

Lots of people everywhere are overpaying for macs because they don't know that you can just put Mac OS X Snow Leopard on your PC. So why not put OS X on you perfectly good PC? You can! Just use iAtkos S3 v2 (most other distros aren't Snow Leopard, iAtkos S3 v2 also gave me the most luck). It is one of the many installations you can use to install OS X.

I am not responsible for any PCs damaged because you did something wrong. Don't let this discourage you form using iAtkos S3 v2. It is perhaps the best distro I've used so far and runs flawlessly (iAtkos v7 had problems with certain drivers and screwed up my Windows partition, iAtkos S3 runs/installs flawlessly).

Step 1: Getting the Right Tools for the Job

Before you begin, here's what you will need:

*iAtkos S3 v2 (google it)
*ISO burning software (already included in Windows 7)
*Blank DVD
*Intel-based PC (the closer the hardware is to a Mac the better)
*HDD partitioning software (Windows 7 has this included also, it is simpler and safer to use)
*External HDD or 16GB+ (if you for some reason don't have the HDD space required, most people don't need this)
*Determination and patience

Now burn the iAtkos S3 v2 ISO image to your blank DVD.

Hey epicnoobpwn,

Thanks for the great tutorial! I just had a question though: is it possible to boot OS X from a external HDD rather than from the DVD drive because my laptop's DVD drive is broken?

Thanks,
virjog
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Jul 17, 2012. 7:22 PM
I reccommend using this method to install Lion. Here's the tutorial: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/10/unibeast-install-mac-os-x-lion-using.html
It works from an 8GB USB flashdrive. I tried an external HDD a while back and it won't boot.

thank for this awesome tut. but i have some queries listed below:
1.what type of partition need for mac whether logical or primary ?
2. out of loin and snow leopard which one is better ?
3 what version of iAtkos is best for intel i3 pc
4. is additional graphic card like nvidia is necessary one hardware ?
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Jul 6, 2012. 4:11 AM
1. If you are going to do a clean install with Snow Leopard, partition with the partitioning utility in the Mac OS X Setup. Make a primary partition. For Lion, repartition your HDD (you will wipe out windows, so back everything up) with the GUID partition scheme, not MBR. Make a Mac OS X Extended Journaled and a MS-DOS partition (this makes windows think you are using MBR). Install Windows to the MS-DOS partition (format it with NTFS). Then install Mac OS X to the Mac OS X partition.

2. Lion is amazing! Here's a tutorial if you're interested: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/10/unibeast-install-mac-os-x-lion-using.html

3. Use the tutorial above for a newer i3 computer. Lion should give you the best results on newer hardware.

4. I don't think so. My laptop just has a dedicated graphics card. If you want your PC to be fast, A GRAPHICS CARD IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED with both Windows and Mac Intel HD graphics aren't all that fast. If you are just browsing the web and editing videos, Intel HD should be sufficient enough. Mac OS X supports both Nvidia and ATI graphics, as Apple has used both in their computers.

Good luck!

Will I be able to update Snow Leopard to say... 10.6.8 so I can get the Mac App Store?
Also, is it possible to upgrade to Lion?

Thanks for your help!
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Jul 6, 2012. 3:55 AM
You can get lion with a clean install, but you cannot upgrade. There's a tutorial here: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/10/unibeast-install-mac-os-x-lion-using.html

Do not update via the app store. Get the manual updates (not the combined updates) on apple's website. Mac OS X Lion can only update via the mac app store as of the 10.7.3 update, and it caused my wifi hardware to not work correctly.

Do you HAVE to keep Windows? I despise the O/S.

I also want to know, if once you've installed the Mac OS, can you install other programs such as Reason, Photoshop & After Effects?

Cheers. :D

Namaste.
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Apr 29, 2012. 10:41 PM
You don't need windows, but if you want to play pc games, I'd keep windows for compatibility reasons. I actually went like 4 months with only mac os x lion on my computer before I figured out how to get windows running on a GUID partiion scheme.

Most art/creativity programs are mac compatible or have a mac version. That's what macs are for! Most programs today have mac compatibility due to so many people having a mac now.

on one of the images it says do you want to register? because this is on a pc can you still register of do you have to leave it or something?
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Apr 5, 2012. 3:11 PM
OS X registration or iLife registration? You can skip the iLife registration. I reccommend registering OS X because it puts the personal info into the OS as an id. Then, when you go to fill out personal info in anything, as you start typing your name in, an id will appear. Click it and it will auto-fill-in all the info. Also, registering OS X puts your email and/or apple id into programs for you.

Thanks,I disabled sleep and that ends the problem .... sort of.
Would you be able to tell me if there is much of a differance between a iATKOSS install and a retail disk install hackintosh.. seems the retail install disk is quite a bit bigger.. :)
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Apr 1, 2012. 12:43 PM
DO NOT INSTALL THE SLEEP DRIVER THIS WILL CAUSE A KERNEL PANIC!

Boot into verbose mode by typing "-v" after you press F8. This will give you an idea of what went wrong.

Hello, I have one question. For this, after you download, is iMovie included or no?
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Apr 1, 2012. 12:40 PM
No, iMovie comes in the iLife package along with Garageband and iPhoto.

Hi,

nice description. Thank you very much. If I would buy Snow Leopard in a store on DVD would it be possible to instal on a PC? I am not stealing; so is it okay with the law?

I have an empty 64 GB SSD in my PC, so there would be no problems with the Partition? Assuming that I have the DVD from the store when should I put it in the PC?

thanks that you spend time for me :-)
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Dec 19, 2011. 5:04 AM
You're fine with the law either way. But if you insist, borrow a friend's mac and use the xmove + multibeast or the new unibeast method (haven't tried yet) for installing lion with the retail cd that you can download from the mac app store (no point installing snowleopard if you can install lion). You can find instructions on tonymacx86.com. Download the latest chimera bootloader (looks nicer), xmove/multibeast/unibeast (whichever method you are using).

Leopard screws up windows bootable partitions. Snowleopard does not.

The method for lion detected the most amount of drivers out of the box. However, it only works with core 2 cpus and later (which I'm assuming since your using an ssd it must be one beast of a machine). I realy like it a lot better than iatkos.

If I read the discription correctly, unibeast will be a flash drive (8gb) and drivers installer in one. It will probably be much easier and have more driver support

Don't I have to change anything from bios? And, how can I start iAtkos at startup, if the computer goes directly to windows? I mean for example if I have a game in dvd-drive, the computer doesn't care and it goes straight to windows, so how could the computer know I have a new os in the dvd and it must boot from the disk?
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Oct 15, 2011. 3:34 PM
My laptop detects bootable cd/dvd on boot automatically. Go into the bios settings by striking the appropriate key on the bios splash screen (such as "press f2 for setup"). Give your cdrom the first priority and save the settings (f10). The dvd will boot up by default instead of the hard drive.

Good luck

I read that it should be coming out soon due to the official release of lion! They're working on it!

I used tonymac's xMove + Multibeast for Lion. Works beautifully!

Hello

Got Mac working OMG it's good.. one except goes to sleep and I can't wake it up with mouse or keyboard.. I have to shut it down and restart.
any ideas??

Thanks
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Oct 15, 2011. 3:19 PM
[sigh] Yes that is a common problem for hackintoshes. There is a kext for it but I highly recommend not installing it. It will cause a kernel panic after an update. Please do not try to install the sleep kext for your own good.

The way I found out was by looking it up on youtube. Youtube will give you the best instructions. Youtube/google is your friend.
vbexpressrocker says: Mar 25, 2011. 7:39 PM
You could at least use the REAL Snow Leopard DVD and iBoot, NO TORRENTS NEEDED!
epicnoobpwn (author) says: Apr 3, 2011. 12:54 PM
Well, I like how iAtkos is a 2-in-1 bootloader/setup disk. It worked perfectly with my laptop and had all the drivers. It gave me the most luck. If you have any drivers that aren't working with iBoot/Snow Leo, I think you should try iAtkos S3 v2.

By the way, where did you download iBoot? You could google it (actually i did get iAtkos via google and didn't torrent download it, if I remember correctly) or torrent it. So you really don't have to use torrents, I guess.
vbexpressrocker says: Jun 28, 2011. 9:12 PM
iBoot:
http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/iboot-multibeast-install-mac-os-x-on.html

Most drivers worked fine, but only the audio didn't work (growl....).
