Install apps on Iphone/Ipod touch WITHOUT wifi !

This instructable tells u how to install apps on ur Iphone/Ipod Touch WITHOUT wifi ..!

Step 1: Requirements!

So you're staring at a newly jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch, and you're ready to install some of the best applications out there ... but you lack a strong Wi-Fi connection. iGopher, a free application for Windows, lets you download and compile all the third-party apps you want on a connected computer and then transfer and install them to your freed iPhone/iPod touch through your regular USB connection.

Requirements
===========

1. A JAILBROKEN Iphone/Ipod touch...lol
2. A PC
3. Iphone/Ipod touch usb cable
4. iGopher (You can download it from here (ITS FREE! ) : http://igopher.googlecode.com/files/Gopher_2003.0.2.zip

5. Internet connection in ur PC (no need of wifi )

I'll do mybbest to explain this. A jailbroken iPod is basically when you take your iPod and download a third party appetite called cydia. Cydia is not available on the appstore, so you have to download it from the computer, or there are someway to do it without the computer. On cydia there are a lot of apps and tweaks, as they call them. Tweaks really just change how the iPod works, so you can put themes on it, and do stuff that normally an iPod wouldn't be able to do.

And sorry, I have no experience with igopher, so I can't help you there. Hope that helped.

No offense, but you don't have to do all this, but it could help if you don't have iTunes or are running on Linux, or any OS that iTunes doesn't support. You don't need to Jailbreak your iPod to put apps on your iPod without WiFi. Just go into iTunes Store, click App Store, then search for the apps you want. Then, you sync your iPod.

dont jailbreak u ipod it voids the warranty and if you upgrade to the new firmware ios 4 you can get apps direct form your itouch!!

uhhhh if you restore apple cant tell that you jailbroke...also, im not sure what you mean by "direct form your itouch" but the app store has existed since ios 2...but you still need wifi.

 Can you somehow install Cydia without wifi? Im using 3.1.2 and so far, only Blackrain can only jailbreak that, and that needs you to have wifi to install cydia.

Go here (with Wifi sorry) but do this on your ipod/iphone type this in "jailbreakme" and it jailbreaks it in like 2 min. :)

doesnt limera1n work with 3.1.2. i have a ipod touch 3g running 4.1 its jailbroke and im connected to my schools internet with it XD. anyways limera1n jailbroke mine without any problems almost instantaneously.

Hi, I was reading the comments from before and I have the same problem when it says "Script and files ready, saved in export directory. No valid connection, no transfer will be performed at this time." I did what you said to the other person like five times. I even restarted my computer twice. Still nothing. I did everything said there. Hope you get back to this soon. I really need to hack my iTouch asap. Thanks!

Which jailbreak method did you use?

That's most probably the source of the problem, some methods like ZiPhone don't allow
USB access to the entire iPhone filesystem. Check if you can see the root directory
with a tool like T-PoT, iPhoneList or iPhoneBrowser.

You need to modify your services.plist in /System/Library/Lockdown/

STEPS:

DOWNLOAD modified services.plist from here http://independence.googlecode.com/issues/attachment?aid=-4518899572723920387&name=Services.plist

Check if you can get into /System/Library/Lockdown/
with Total commander or iPhoneList or iPhoneBrowser.
If you can,follow these steps

1.Rename services.plist to bservices.plist (backing up)
2.Copy the downloaded services.plist file to /System/Library/Lockdown/

RESTART IPOD.

If you cant get into /System/Library/Lockdown/ through Total Commander ,follow these steps.

1.Create a 'Documents' folder in your desktop.Copy the downloaded services.plist
2.Copy this Documents folder to your ipod touch (where you can access through total commander)
3.Make sure you have MobileFinder downloaded to your iPod.(which is available in the installer or download it manually if you don't have wi-fi)
4.Open Finder.Goto top right corner and click on ~ button
5.You should see Documents Folder ,open it.
6.Copy Services.plist
7.Goto /System/Library/Lockdown/
8.Rename Services.plist (original file which you find in /System/Library/Lockdown/ ,NOT THE DOWNLOADED ONE) to BServices.plist
9.paste your downloaded Services.plist there
10.Reboot Ipod.

Hope this will help.

This fix is called afc2 fix. If you have wi-fi, you can download this fix through installer. (don't remember the repo :/ )

i get to run the gopher application and select the apps that i want for my ipod touch .. but when i click on export this is what it says .

Yeah,this happens when itunes doesnt recognize ipod.Try these steps.. 1.Close iGopher 2.Disconnect USB cable and open iTunes. 3.Connect iPod.Make sure it shows up in itunes. 4.Now open igopher and try to export. (Sorry for the late reply :(

I heard there was a fix that would require you to have wi-fi...and I think that just doesn't make any sense using igopher in the first place..

It still doesn't work...it said on some sites that ziphone-modified ipod touch doesn't work on igopher. Is that true? If it is..what do you think is the best way to jailbreak your itouch other than ziphone so it won't reach FW 2.0 and up?

thats not true...i had my ipod jailbroken using ziphone n it wrkd with igopher.... but i would recommend idemocracy or winpwn or quickpwn over ziphone coz they are more stable...

may I ask what firmware you are in?...I was on 1.1.4...been tryin' that entry you wrote on Feb 12, 2009. 3:37 AM ...for like 20 times..and I still got the same problem over and over again...even though it was clear as day that iTunes was detecting it..yeah...I know about quickpwn and it jailbreaks almost anything successfully but without openssh or bsd subsystem...which is so crappy...big time! although I've never heard of idemocracy...and I'm checkin' that out right away... I'm on 1.1.4. I had faced the same problem when i used igopher for the first time.I don't know instructables is not allowing me to post replies that contain link or any file locations..so if u send me ur mail id i would send the tutorial on how to fix this error..

dude I really want the igopher to work but I have 2.0.1 firmware. i understand that igopher transfers the files required to a directory '/var/mobile/Library/Installer' then the installer gets those files and continues to install the app to the iphone, can't we find the folder used by installer 4.0 & do this manually. then can we install softwares by mimicking the igpoher
