Introduction: Instant Lounge Seats

About: Instagram: @makecation | Tumblr: makecation.tumblr.com

I needed tons of extra seating for a last minute Halloween party I decided to have and came up with a cheap and fast solution. Here's what you'll need:

- 8+ buckets (4-5 gallon)
- Table cloth, sheet or blanket
- Couch cushions or large pillows

I happened to score a bunch of 4 gallon pales from an ad on Craigslist for $1 each, but you can find 5 gallon buckets at home depot. They're called "Homer" buckets and come in a 5-pack for $11.70.

The tablecloth cost me $1 from the 99 cent store (thanks Q Bargain!). And the cushions are the back cushions from my couch. I just replaced the back cushions on my couch with decorative pillows.

Step 1: Arrange Buckets

Arrange the buckets, open side down, in the area you need seating. I spaced mine apart about 5-8 inches since my cushions are pretty big.

Step 2: Drape Cloth

Drape the tablecloth over the buckets and tuck any excess material underneath the buckets. I made sure to smooth out the wrinkles to make it lay nice and even.

Step 3: Add Cushions

Lay the cushions on top and adjust the buckets and cover to desired attractiveness. Stand back and admire your lounge-seating-to-go!

Total cost: $9.00!

Use the buckets for storage too, and you can use an outdoor furniture cushion for the top.

Maybe try putting the sheet/cloth over the pillows as well for ultra modern design. Try white sheet with different colored lights in the room as well!!! Just ideas! Amazing work!

    Marvelous. Simply marvelous.

Thanks for the info. I need a little bed for my art studio, and the wheels in my head are turning as to how I can make one using your princepels. You really came up with a brilliant idea! :0) (I subscribed)

Wonderful! Post pics if you get a chance, I'd love to see what you come up with :)

Now if I could only spell..."principles" ... I knew it looked wrong when I wrote it ;0)

About the cushions, I'm thinking about a one piece foam pillow, could you possibly tell me what size I should buy? again. Well done!

My cushions are approx. 2 x 2 ft. You can position the buckets to fit slightly smaller or larger than that. Or even add more buckets if the cushions are significantly larger. A single piece of foam is a great idea! I was even thinking of putting a board or something rigid underneath the cushioning for more stability. However the buckets alone were surprisingly stable. They tend to move around a little and the covering gets a little messy, so you may want to find a way to secure the covering if you're looking for a longer term solution. Happy making!
